| As Alex quickly spoke, he watched her expressions. When she smiled his cheek took on a tone of red they felt warm. Such outbursts of conversation were unusual to him, and especially when talking to a girl. His eyes shifted away as she laughed. It wasn't that he thought she was laughing at him, he knew it was probably complimentary. In fact, He was happy that she could laugh, that she was smiling. But still, she was smiling at him, laughing because of him. That's why his face grew red. He blinked when her smile faded, his own smile faded slightly too, concern appearing in his face for a moment.
You too?
Alex stood silently, that was a sad thought. It wasn't fair, she seemed like a wonderful person, she didn't deserve to be so lonely. He wondered what it was about her that drove others away, he certainly couldn't see it.
You're the most amazing person I've ever met in my entire life
His heart skipped a little as she embraced him. For a moment he didn't know what to do, his hands remained uselessly at his sides. He froze, realizing how close she was. His breath hung in chest and a moment passed before his arms wrapped tightly around her, holding her close. It was like she was trying to make his face burn up and catch fire, though, thankfully, she couldn't see his cheeks. It was almost pitiable that this was his first real hug.
I was so worried I was going to scare you off.
She let him go and he stepped back a half step, smiling, glancing down and to the side a bit. “I'm really sorry I worried you Mindy,” he said, looking up to her. Alex's smiled widened further as she twirled about, flipping gracefully over the couch, her cheer seemed to infect him, making it impossible to do anything but smile. He stepped over and placed his elbows against the back of the couch, looking down towards her. “It was a major thing to process, I mean come on. I could have never imagined that this could happen,” a playful smile began to spread across his face. “It's a lot to take in y'know? Here I thought I knew how the world worked, but, I mean, there actually exists an awesome girl who enjoys my company. It'll take awhile to adjust the way I see things.” His smile spread further, before adding, “Oh, and magic is real too or something.”
Where's the best place to eat around here?
He blinked as she sat up, they were suddenly much closer than they were moments ago. To his credit, he managed to stop himself from blushing. “I...don't really know to be honest,” he began. “I'm kind of new to this area too. But yes. I'm starving too.” He admitted, stomach growling a moment later as if to agree with him. “Is there any food in this house? I can cook pretty well, or we can go on the hunt for a decent place to eat in the area. Don't know where, but, well. Up to you.”
He let out a mental sigh of a relief. The tension melted away in seconds, the fact she bounced back so quickly cheered him a great deal and brought his mind off the fear and anxiety of moments before. He almost felt like a very real and heavy weight was lifted off his shoulders. She was a special girl and he felt more and more like the more time he spent around her the happier he would be. He was still overwhelmed, but it felt different now, instead of being crushed by the weight of fear it was an overwhelming feeling of joy, of an eagerness to get to know her better.
There was a niggling doubt deep down inside that once she got to know him she wouldn't be interested anymore. He wasn't anything special, sure he was nice, but he was awkward and strange, he certainly wasn't special enough to be with her. He didn't play sports, he read books. He could play a few instruments though none he felt, very well. He drew pictures that he never showed anyone and had no idea how to talk to people. His appearance was nothing special, his hair was long and boringly black, his eyes dull and grey. He was short and skinny looking. All around, in his own eyes, he was imperfect in almost every way compared to her. With enchanting eyes, perfect smile and a pretty face, wild long hair, coloured in a way he'd never seen before. It was almost intimidating.

| Blinking, Mindy looked over her shoulder at Alex when she heard him stand from the couch, followed by a solid ‘no’. Her eyes followed his frame as he walked around the couch so he was now able to see her again, and vice versa. The young witch looked at the student in a confused manner as he started rambling about there being no need to apologize, that he was a moron and that he hoped that she could forgive him. She? Forgive him? For what! That seemed rather silly seeing as she truly was the one that should apologize to Alex after bringing him into a potentially life threatening situation without his consent. He was a strange boy. As Alex continued to speak, Mindy’s bright blue eyes continued to stare at him almost unblinking. He was talking so fast without taking a breath, it seemed like this was something that he just had to get out of his system. Though, when he told her that even though his life may be in danger, he couldn’t live with himself if he just left her, it made her smile. No one had ever said anything like that to her before; she found it sweet and almost flattering. She then laughed as he had to catch his breath after saying everything that he needed to get out. She found it rather adorable actually. Though, Mindy’s smile faded when he then told her that she was the first real friend that he thought he ever had. “You too?” She asked softly, which was the first thing that came out of her mouth after his mini speech. A huge smiled appeared on the young witch’s face and she laughed happily, lurching forwards and wrapping her arms around Alex tightly, squeezing him into a hug. “You are the most amazing human, no, the most amazing person I’ve ever met in my entire life!” She said happily before letting him go. “I was so worried that I was going to scare you off. You just sat there as I talked and I was like, oh my goodness, he’s going to leave isn’t he? I didn’t want you to leave, I was just trying to protect you but if you think you can handle and put up with me, then that’s fine too!” She said before twirling around happily and flipping over the couch to lay on it, staring up at the ceiling. Of course, Mindy was still worried about what might have happened to him, to both of them, if the headmaster found out about this. So, she would just have to work hard to keep it their little secret. Act like normal friends outside and then have this abandoned place be their own little hangout spot where they could truly be themselves. At least, where she could truly be herself and set things on fire with her magic. Suddenly, she sat up on the couch and then turned back to Alex with a wide grin. “Where’s the best place to eat around here? We should go get something, I’m starving. Are you hungry?” She figured that he was probably going to get a little overwhelmed with how much her emotion changed so quickly from serious and depressed to goofy and hyper. Though, she didn’t want him to worry anymore. She didn’t want to put that scared, worried, upset expression back on that perfect face of his. Sure, Mindy was still upset a little on the inside but she would deal with that herself later, when she was alone and practicing her more intense magic, the stuff that she didn’t want Alex around to watch her do. It was better this way, now they both would have a better time together for the rest of the day. | |

| Alex sank onto the couch, his mind was racing nowhere, his thoughts were jumbled and confused. The old doubts tried to weasel back in, the story was so preposterous, it had to be made up. But he knew deep down that there was no denying it anymore. Magic, magic, magic. His mind repeated it in his head as he attempted to cope with the overwhelming knowledge. The facts were clear, magic existed and she knew magic, and because he knew those two facts he was as good as dead.
Her footsteps echoed softly against the wooden floors, the floor creaked softly on every so step and filled the otherwise silent room. Alex stared at the floor, his heart continued to hammer. He felt dizzy, like he was going to pass out. Her back was to him, and no matter how close they were, there was an invisible wall between them.
He heard her take a breath, she was about to speak. He felt a deep ball of anxiety in his chest as he waited for her to begin, his stomach felt like it was doing flips. You can leave now, he waited as she continued, I know you're trying to be brave. Ouch, guess he wasn't doing a good enough job. He wondered what fear smelled like, indignant, he felt insulted but it was true. He was terrified, he could feel the tremble he was holding back. Her words came slowly, did she not want to say it? Or did she know it was pointless, that he was doomed regardless.
There was a tense silence that followed. He swallowed painfully, unsure of how to answer. He just didn't know how he felt, how to talk to her. Did he want to leave? To leave her? No. Of course not, but there were circumstances involved, death in particular. A very real and possible death awaiting him should he stay. But he couldn't just leave, he cared about her. But just the same, he stayed silent, something in his heart betrayed him. I shouldn't have ever gotten you into this mess. She had regret, he heard the pain in her voice as she spoke. She liked him, he liked her but there was more to it than that. We can't be friends, he barely heard her, the sound came muffled. His teeth pressed together, lips tightly closed. What kind of fate awaited him that made her say these things?
I'm truly sorry Alex. The words hung in the air like a priceless heirloom before it fell off the shelf. Crash, the words hit him like a hammer. He almost gasped, he looked at the wall ahead of him for peace, for something to hold on to. His hands were tightly clenched, his knuckles white with the effort. He felt emotions wash over him, pity, a lot of it for himself. Suddenly, through it all, he felt disgust, at himself.
You're hurting her Alex. With your pained, the sadness in your voice. You can see how it's affecting her, but she did all this in spite of the dangers involved because she's alone Alex, because she needs a friend. Yes, it's terrifying, isn't it? There's danger involved, but safety never did suit you. All that time spent reading fiction books weren't for school assignments, they weren't fun little reads. You wanted to escape into those stories Alex, it was the closest you ever came to the thrill of an adventure. You're not upset over what she's done, you're just scared about the danger, you're worried about dying, and your worried about losing this wonderful thing just as soon as you've finally found it.
Well get over it, it's time to deal because she needs you. She needs you to be alright with it, she needs you to be strong. She needs you to be her friend, and you need her too.
Alex rushed to his feet suddenly, he wasn't sure when he started standing. He look ahead to the wall and shook his head faintly. “No.” He spoke quietly, a note of determination in his quiet whisper. He laughed, a single shallow laugh as he moved around the couch. “There is no need to apologize, I get it now. I was moron...I hope you can forgive me. You see, it's easy to decide. It's not too late to leave you say? Well, you're wrong, it's much too late to leave, do you know why?”
He paused only a moment, not long enough for her to answer. “It's because there's no way I can leave now. You see Mindy. It's much too late to leave because there is nothing outside worth leaving for. My life may be in danger, but I couldn't live with myself if I left. I'm going to stay, here, with you consequences be damned. Of course, provided that's okay with you.” He caught his breath finally. He was worried he was talking much too fast, not out of nervousness or fear, but because of his excitement. It came so clearly now, he had to stay. He couldn't turn his back on her, not now.
“I owe you to stick it out, you're the first real friend I think I've ever had. That's why there's nothing to apologize for.” He smiled, stand around the back of the couch, looking at her, studying. He had no idea what would happen now, despite his fear and his worry, he knew what he truly wanted deep down was to stay right here with her.

| Mindy’s bottom lip pushed it way out to form a pout on her pale and slightly worried face. Alex’s initial reaction worried her. She was a freak after all, she wouldn’t blame him if he just wanted to escape from her now and never think about this conversation ever again. It would scare any normal human being, right? I mean, his life could even be on the line here. Not just anyone would even risk it if a tiny sliver of a chance of death was apparent. Should she tell him so though? Tell him that he should just leave, and that it wouldn’t bother her if that’s what he decided? But it would bother her. It’d bother her a lot. He didn’t seem like the other students here, even though admittedly she skipped all but the one class she was in with Alex. The young spellcaster didn’t want to get to know any other human though. They seemed so plain, ordinary, and studious. Even if this was supposed to be a punishment, she at least wanted to be around people who would amuse her, even in the slightest bit.
Alex seemed to be that person. The one that she actually wanted to get to know more about. What should she do? It was then that the dark haired male turned around to face her once again, a somewhat natural looking smile on his face. Mindy couldn’t help but smile a bit herself when she heard his joke about her favourite colours. “I can’t really help which colours i’m attracted to. I guess it’s in my blood to be drawn to those colours.” She shrugged, looking over at Alex. “I could say the same thing to you too. Blue? That’s hardly an original choice yourself.”She grinned.
Mindy could tell what he was trying to do. He wanted to change the subject back to something happy. But he couldn’t fool her; she wasn’t a normal girl after all. She could see his eyes quivering a little as he gazed upon her, his face had almost all the colours drained out of it, almost like he had seen some sort of ghost. It was wrong of her to even approach this normal human boy. His life would probably have been so much better without her interrupting everything that he thought was normal. Even his forehead glistened with moisture. He was scared. She should have known that he would be.
Slowly looking away, Mindy raised up off of the couch and then walked around behind it, leaning against it, her back turned to Alex. “You know..” She started, biting her lip and closing her eyes tightly before taking a deep breath, opening her bright blue eyes to look at the wall on the other side of the room. “You can leave now, if you want. I know you’re trying to be brave, to hide it but I can see it. I can even smell your fear.” She finished, turning her head to glance over her shoulder at him but she stopped halfway, quickly turning her head to look back towards the wall. This was more difficult then she thought it would be. Just how much of an impression did he leave on her in the short time? It was probably because he was the only one who knew her secret that wasn’t the headmaster here. And she hated secrets.
The young woman pushed a hand through her hair, almost in a frustrated manner. “I shouldn’t have even gotten you into this whole mess. I apologize. Don’t get me wrong though, I like you Alex, I really do. But I don’t think we can... Well... Be friends. I don’t want to hurt you.”She said, almost mumbling the last part of the sentence. The truth was, she was also scared. Scared of what exactly would happen. Mindy had only heard stories and rumours about what happened to the humans that found out about their secret on very rare occasions. Mindy didn’t really want to find out the truth about it. She... Had a grave feeling that it would be much worse than any of the stories she had heard back home.
Mindy couldn’t bring herself to turn to look at Alex. She had always thought of herself to be a strong individual, someone who wasn’t scared of anything. However, the very thought of her or someone else having to hurt Alex for just knowing about what she was terrified her. Even the thought of what sort of look he would have on his face right now. She couldn’t bear to witness his fear, especially since she was the one who caused it to be there in the first place.
“I’m truly sorry Alex.” Mindy’s eyes fell straight to the ground, looking at her feet as she waited for his response.

| Alex smiled, red and orange. Of course they would be fiery colors, he should have guessed. It seemed pretty obvious now that he thought about it. He knew a persons personality, or favorite magical spell, didn't really determine their personality, it just fit the idea of Mindy. He leaned in a bit, listening intently as she described her favorite place. He tried to imagine it, the magical nature of that wonderful place. He wished he could see all of it, so many interesting places he could only imagine. And, he could only imagine them, through no fault of Mindy's description he knew what he thought would probably pale in the face of the real thing. He sighed quietly, how he wished she really could show him that place, and was about to say as much before he stopped himself. He knew she couldn't and figured saying that would only sadden her. But, he began to realize why he thought it might sadden her. He knew that he wasn't supposed to be told these things and began to think of a way to ask her what would happen. He felt bad that his selfish questions had somehow pushed her into revealing things that would get her in trouble. “That place sounds wonderful.” he remarked after she finished, his bright smile remained on his face as she began to tell him her favorite thing to do. Of course her favorite would be blowing things up, he laughed a bit loudly and grinned, “I should have guessed.” A practical joker? He wondered what a magical prankster could do if they set their mind to it, he shivered slightly at the thought.
But it was time to be serious. His face grew a bit grim as his concern and worry came forward. He looked down for a moment, studying the couch before he looked straight at her. “And my last question...is it alright you've told me about what you are...?”. His voice grew weak near the end, almost whispering. He realized how sudden he was and wished he could have just shut up, the air seemed dense somehow and he managed to swallow once. It seemed like asking that just changed what could have been a perfectly fine and fun day, but the question was gnawing at him. He hoped beyond hope that she would simply reply that it was no big deal as long as he didn't go blabbing it to other people. Just make some joke about it, have it not be a problem. Things would be fine right?
As she looked away he knew his answer. His eyes locked on her as he forgot to breath for a moment. He listened with the sense that there might actually be real danger. He watched her as the seconds dragged on, it was killing him inside and he felt empty and nervous, like he hadn't eaten for days. His eyes locked on to her bright blue eyes he wanted to look away but found himself unable to. She mumbled something and he watched her intently, she seemed nervous and that made it all the worse. It was forbidden, forbidden? Of course it was, humans didn't know about them and it was forbidden for humans to know because well, they shouldn't know right? He wouldn't tell anybody, so there would be no problem. Wipe his memories? That was...it made sense but it scared him. One day he could just wake up and not know her, not know anything she had told him and he would go on his normal life without any idea she ever existed? He couldn't imagine how horrible it would be, she could just take the memories from his head? His face paled at the thought as she went on, it was growing steadily worse, becoming exactly what he had predicted. He exhaled a bit too quickly and took a breath as he remembered to breath. He listened to her make a joke and let out a nervous laugh. It certainly was a fine joke, but he wasn't in much of a mood for a joke.
And then he froze. He wouldn't simply wake up never knowing this girl, this mysterious interesting and wonderful girl. He would be dead. Was she joking? He watched her look away and he felt cold, her quiet comment made him feel trapped, he realized suddenly that he had risen to his feet. He shook his head and looked at her, laughing nervously. “V-...very funny.” He said weakly, watching her. He turned away from her, placing a hand on his forehead and began to draw slow breaths and he paced away from her a few feet. He shook his head once more, as if he could shake himself free of the feeling that had crushed him. His mind seemed to stop and he took another deep breath before everything started up again. He knew that it was meant to be secret and that he couldn't tell anybody, so what did it matter what the consequences were? He realized it was that it was the fear that they would be watching her right now. He knew she was here on some kind of a punishment, she was a troublemaker and they expected her to cause trouble right? This was trouble, she had made some trouble and they would know. He shook his head, if that was the case there was probably nothing he could do anyway. He turned suddenly, a smile that seemed at least somewhat natural was on his face. “I see. Well, favorite color red and orange huhn? Don't you think that's too obvious of a pick?” He laughed as he sank back on the couch watching her. He wanted to joke, change the mood, he didn't think he could process the idea of his impending unavoidable death for very long. As much as he could hide the fear on his face and nervous tone in his voice he couldn't avoid the fact that his face was paled and that his forehead was lined with a cold sweat. |

| How could Mindy be so understood back in her home world but feel so accepted in a human world, with just one human? It was mind boggling. She was just a misunderstood person and this boy... This human male had the nerve to go up to her and start talking to her out of the blue. It almost felt like they had been friends for ages, just sitting her casually talking with one another. She wasn’t even accepted by her own parents, which was the reason why she was enrolled in the magic school across the country. So that they didn’t have to be near her. Even her own parents didn’t understand her so how could Alex be so understanding and accepting?
At first she figured that it was just because he was interested in her magical abilities. He had never seen anything like it before so he was fascinated by her. He didn’t really want to get to know her as a person, he just wanted to get to know her as an artefact of curiosity and wonder. But as she was thining this, it seemed silly. He was smiling, laughing, frowning and showing all emotions with her. He was asking her questions about herself and not just her magic. Maybe he was lonely too? Maybe they both just needed a friend that would understand one another.
The worry that she was feeling, however, could not be ignored and she feared that Alex was starting to catch on to her little gestures of glancing towards the door and around the room every now and then. Actually, she was quite positive that he had caught her doing that a few times. She could see the worry in his eyes, could sense that he knew something was up. Of course she wasn’t going to talk about it with him though. However, the only thing she was worried about would be Alex. He probably would have to get his memory wiped of this entire encounter if they were caught. They couldn’t do anything worse to her, sending her to the human world was the worst punishment in the world. She just... She didn’t want Alex to have to forget about this.
Putting that aside for now, Mindy smiled as she listened to him answer her question. He was so... Attractive and it amused her how he was holding up a finger every time he answered one of her questions. Maybe she should have spread out the questions a little bit to give him time to answer them. But she really couldn’t, she was curious and she wanted to know everything at that very second.
Mindy laughed as he asked her the same question and she put on a funny face as she was thinking about it. “Well, my favourite colour is red and orange, my favourite place would be... Hm..” She paused for a moment before smiling a little. “Probably here, like you. But there’s also this one place that I would have loved to show you if you were in my world. It’s called a magic current lake. It’s like a regular lake in the day time but at nice you can see the magic currents running through it since the water is dark. They’re all different colours for all of the elemental magic. It’s really neat.”She said excitedly before thinking about her favourite thing to do. “My favourite thing to do would probably be to blow things up. I also enjoy playing practical jokes on people. So watch out.” She smirked before it slowly faded when Alex became more serious.
Was it okay if she told him what she was? Of course not. It was forbidden of course. Mindy studied the expression on Alex’s face and looked away for a moment, folding her hands in her lap. “Um... Well... You see...” She stumbled for a moment before her bright blue orbs looked at Alex. “No. It’s apparently forbidden to tell human’s about what I am. Unless I’m fully prepared to carry out the consequences.”She said, smiling a little, trying to lighten the mood. “Nothing’s going to happen, Alex. I’ll be fine, you’ll be fine, it will all be fine... If you don’t tell anyone. If you tell someone else, anyone else, there’s a risk that the whole population of the human world will end up knowing about us. So since I have told you my secret, you have to swear and really mean it, that you won’t tell a soul. Or else I have to wipe the memories of you and the personal you tell directly and then I’ll have to-“She said but then stopped herself. “This is going to totally sound cliché, like one of those books or movies that you watch here in your world.”She said, laughing a little.
“But I’ll have to kill you. With you not having any memories of who I am. It’s deliberate, it’s supposed to punish both me and you.” She finished, looking away. “And I really don’t want that to happen.”She said quietly.

| Alex shifted, sliding his back along the couch into the arm, he faced her with a warm calm smile. He'd never really sat like this with someone before, at least, that he could remember. His eyes studied her for a moment as he realized something. He didn't know this girl, sitting across from him. So, what was it about her that made him trust her? That made him so completely interested? It was, of course, the fact she possessed magic.
He thought about that fact for a moment and mentally shook his head, that wasn't it. Though, it was true he didn't really know her that much, he was beginning to. What he learned about her, he liked. He was, of course, incredibly interested in her unique 'gifts' but that wasn't all it was. This was a genuinly good person, someone actually interested in him. She seemed kind, curious, and she interested him with more than just her ability to make things explode. It made him happy to realize that. He would have felt guilty otherwise. Like he was just faking interest to learn about her magic.
As he studied her, in the brief moments between conversation, he noticed a worry. The odd glances at doors and worry crossing her features. She seemed afraid of something, and he could guess what it was. She wasn't supposed to be talking like this to him, it was probably against the rules. How else had humanity not learned about magic? It was a closely guarded secret and she had probably broken rule number one. Don't tell them. Of course, upon realizing this he began to worry about her, what would happen if they found out? If she was cast here, wouldn't they already know? They would be watching her if she was sent here as punishment right? He resolved immediately not to tell another soul what she told him. It would be a secret he would take to his grave, he couldn't risk putting her in anymore trouble. Of course, he could have been wrong he realized and was already embarrassed by leaping to conclusions. But it was possible, and he didn't want to chance causing her more grief.
Was he good at drawing? He thought for a moment about that, surely he was pretty good, he'd been complimented by everybody who saw his work, which admittedly wasn't a lot of people. But there was always a flaw in his work, something he noticed. After noticing each flaw he'd notice more and more until, in his eyes, the art simply wasn't good. He knew it was almost a cliché to be an artist who thinks they're awful at drawing. She asked a few more questions quickly and he had to concentrate to remember them all so he could answer. “Human life for me? Well, it's alright. It's life, you wake up, you eat breakfest, you go to school, you come home, you do homework and then you try to have fun until the next day. Or, something similar to that I guess. I might have left out a couple of meal.” He shrugged quickly with a smile. Alex raised one finger every time he answered a question, as if keeping track of how many he answered. “I don't really have a favorite place, but of all the ones I've been I'd have to say right here is looking pretty good.” His smile turned into a grin for a moment before he continued, a second finger raising. “My favorite color is blue.” Well that was simple he thought to himself. His hand would drop to his side as he leaned back against the chair letting out a stretch. He blinked “Oh right, what I do for fun...well...not much really. I like to read and I haven't drawn in awhile. Life's pretty dull for me” He laughed nervously, half smile on his face. He realized once more that he hadn't answered her question on drawing. He returned to his normal sitting position. “Well, I'm alright at drawing.” He said simply, forcing the half smile to remain before it faded.
His smile appeared as he leaned forward “So I've got some questions then. Same ones really, I'm not terribly original” He grinned and then went on “Favorite color, place and thing to do if you'd please!” After she answered he'd suddenly look a bit more serious. “...And is it alright you've told me about what you are...?” He looked...concerned, worried. But he was serious. He didn't mean to be so sudden, but he had to know. He felt a little guilty, like he had forced her to tell him. And if something bad happened to her because he was curious? He couldn't let that happen. |

| This was strange. Talking and smiling normally with someone, a human no less. And especially since he was a boy. Mindy couldn’t remember if she had ever actually had a decent conversation with a boy, a boy around her age at least. It almost felt wrong to be acting this way, to actually be having fun. Was this wrong for her to do? It wasn’t as if she was forcing him against his will to skip class, talk and have fun with her. He wanted to be here on his own accord. But that wasn’t why it felt wrong to her. This whole.. Situation felt wrong and weird. Mindy’s excitement masked the uneasiness she felt inside. She felt as if she would be punished for this later. Punished for one of the only things that made her happy and has ever made her this happy. Hell, she was going to be punished for exposing a human to something they shouldn’t even know existed. Why should she care, they sent her here in the first place.
Alex made Mindy laughed inside. He was just an interesting, un-boring human, much to her surprise. She thought that humans, being non magical beings, would have nothing going for them. They would just be regular people that were just.. Blah, plain. However, Alex surprised her in this way, his excitement was funny and cute and his whole personality was something that she enjoyed. Mindy just hoped that she wasn’t being too boring or too plain for him; she hoped that he wasn’t just mesmerized by her magic. She wanted him to be interested in her as a person too, to be curious about how she really was just as much as she was curious to know more about him.
Mindy smiled as Alex began to talk about himself, saying that he didn’t really have any interesting abilities. She looked at him interestingly, surely something that he could do would have been interesting. Not as interesting as being able to shoot and play with fire, for sure, but something human must have been interesting as well. When he mentioned that he liked to fence, and he also liked to read, the young witch smiled a little more softly. “Reading was never really something I liked to do, but it was only because I only read at school and school sucks.”She said before sticking out her tongue at the thought of her school.. And this school as well.
And then she heard that he liked to draw. “You like to draw?... Are you good at it?”She asked him curiously. She had never met someone who liked to do any sort of traditional art. In her world, they only learned about stuff like that, learned about the artists in her world but there were no art classes, everyone was too focused on building their power and abilities to have any hobbies with any sort of art like drawing. But then it seemed like the topic changed quickly as Alex told her that if she had questions then she should just come out and ask him. She followed him into the other room as he left and then closed the door behind her, just in case the headmaster came looking for them. They would have more time to hide or run that way.
Quickly scurrying over to the couch and hopping over the back and landing on the cushions beside Alex, she smiled happily when he said that she should go first with the question asking. “Well, first of all I would like you to answer my first question about your drawing.”She said with a small laugh before thinking about other questions for him to answer at the same time. “What’s human life like? What do humans do for fun? Where are your favourite places to be? What’s your favourite colour?”She asked excitedly. It was almost hard to stop herself from asking too many question. Though, she figured that the questions she just asked would be enough for him to think about and answer before she threw another batch of questions at him.. Well.. After he asked her a few questions too of course.

| Alex for once hardly noticed the little flinch, the small note of reaction by one of his comments he didn’t intend to be negative. He didn’t notice because his mind was going a million miles a second, this changed everything. Everything he thought about the world could be a lie, get lost physics, you don’t matter anymore. He almost laughed, considered going back to all his old teachers, shouting at them, telling them how wrong they were. But now wasn’t the time for his mastermind schemes. Right now he had to tone it down and be with his friend, get to know her, let her know him. Even in the face of the most wonderful discovery of all time he was civil and polite. His wild smile grew to a controlled grin. He would learn about her, not just the magic but what she was. Her favorite colors, favorite foods, what she did for fun, her favorite subject. All the stuff you would find out in your average questionnaire on the first day of school.
He enjoyed her smile, it was warm and honest, almost like she didn’t do it often enough. Apart of him wanted to make sure that she did. Her smirk caught him suddenly, with his mind focused and a little bit less crazy he wondered what she caught in him that amused her, maybe it was his interest, or amazement of what must have seemed to her mundane. He quickly realized that his note of sadness wasn’t just in his head, he saw it on her face that she noticed and his face instantly burned. He wasn’t used to talking to people. Especially not a girl, especially not a girl with magical powers. He did his best to mentally keep his blush from spreading any further. He didn’t want to sound like such a…such a crazy person. But there he was, crazying it up. His smile returned more sincerely when she assured him that it was really happening, he knew it certainly didn’t feel like a dream, but the quiet more silent aspect of his mind told him too good to be true probably wasn’t. He was willing to look silly now though; deep in his heart he always believed there was something more out there. His eyes met right back towards hers. He liked to look at her eyes, they were so unusual and especially interesting he wondered if it was ever possible for her to hide those eyes from others. Though, anyone who saw her eyes would probably know immediately that she was special, unique in some way. He decided that he was glad he had someone to be a friend to in this school, he was worried he wouldn’t fit in again, that he would have to be someone he wasn’t in order to get people to like him.
Humans aren’t supposed to know about them? He thought about that for a minute, what had she done to earn herself this exile? In his mind he had already decided that it was unjust, or she chose it for some reason. Alex walked slowly towards her after the fiery spectacle, smiling with a shrug. Special abilities? Well he had a couple of talents. “Well, nothing that interesting.” he said with a sigh. “I like to fence, I like to read.” he paused for a moment and realized he was scared to reveal something. He took a breath and tried to appear like he hadn’t just paused to consider whether or not she should reveal something about himself. “I like to draw.” he confessed. He felt there was an eerie silence surrounding his confession, he’d never told or shown anyone before. But she said she was curious, curious about him. He almost laughed, ridiculous. Someone so full of wonder was curious about him. In short, it was flattering. He’d never really considered himself interesting, certainly not to someone like her. “If you have a lot of questions, ask them.” he said, turning and walking out of the room to the couch in response to her next question. He would let her ask whatever she liked.
The excitement in her voice was as surprising as her interest. He flopped back on the couch when he entered the room, assuming she had followed. Taking up on half of it. Dragging himself up to sit normally he looked to her. “I’d like a grand tour” he said quickly “but in a bit. I think we should let ourselves ask some questions. You first though” he added at the end. |

| Mindy smiled proudly to herself when she saw how excited and amazed Alex seemed to be at her little magic tricks, if you would call them that. Though, when she heard him say that he would set fire to everything if he had that kind of power, she flinched a little bit. He didn’t really know what he was saying; he wouldn’t want that at all. Mindy knew for a fact that setting fire to everything would be the last thing someone with her kind of ability would want to do. Unfortunately, she knew that from experience. It was tough, trying to control her powers when she was younger and she literally did set fire to everything. It wasn’t fun at all, and it was hardly a joke. Though, Mindy kept smiling to Alex, not wanting him to see that his statement bothered her a little. She was hated back in her world for setting fire to things and she knew that Alex wouldn’t want that at all. So she just laughed a little at him, trying to seem like she wasn’t bothered at all. It didn’t really bother her that much; it just set off bad memories.
It was exciting and it made her even happier when Mindy heard Alex say that it was enough proof for him to believe her. In fact, he also stated that it was more than he needed. But the look on his face and in his eyes stated something else. He was curious, he obviously wanted to know more about her, see more of the things that she was able to do. It made the young witch smirk a little to herself; he would just have to wait around a little longer to see what else she was capable of doing. Though, when Alex leaned forward, closer to Mindy, she blinked a few times in surprise and wondered what exactly he was doing.
And then Alex stated how incredible this whole thing was, that it seemed like an amazing dream that he was about to wake up from. The sadness on the end of that statement was what caught Mindy’s attention, however. He didn’t want this to be a dream, and neither did she. The young witch had never really found any true, good friends that were as interesting in her as Alex was. They also both had a lot in common it seemed and Alex wasn’t scared of who she actually was. Even though she was so different than anyone else that he had probably ever met, he wasn’t scared or nervous at all it seemed. “Well... You’re lucky because this is certainly not a dream.” Mindy said with a small laughed as she looked straight back into his eyes.
It was nice for a change to not have to divert her eyes from anyone who was staring at her or even looking at her. Mindy thought that was going to be a big issue with coming here to the human world, and it was still going to be but at least she had one person, at least one person, to just be herself with. She was just lucky that she had found him on her first day of school, which made her overjoyed with happiness. It wasn’t long before Alex stepped back from staring at her and then thanked her for showing him some of her powers. “You’re very welcome. I’ve been wanting to do that since I got here. It’s so hard to contain myself here, to hide what I really am since you human’s aren’t supposed to know that we actually exist somewhere out there.” She said with a small sigh as she rubbed the back of her head and stretched afterwards.
Mindy stopped when Alex continued talking and she blinked curiously at him. “What special ability do you have, Alex? Of course it won’t be as extravagant as mine but I want to know all about you and your talents. What types of things are you into? What talents do you have? You make me curious, Alex. It’s hard to contain myself from asking you a whole whack of questions at once.” Mindy stated with a slightly embarrassed laugh. “Would you like to sit down again? We could just talk. Or I could give you the grand tour of this abandoned dormitory, which I don’t know how exciting that would be to you.” She continued. It was obvious that she was still excited, judging by how fast she was talking and the amount of questions that she was asking all at once.

| He loved her excitement, he was the relief she seemed to be waiting for. She was trapped, or so it seemed to him, to pretend to be someone she wasn’t for reasons he didn’t really understand. But he knew for certain was that she thought he was a friend and, with all her mystery and wonder, he knew he liked her. It wasn’t at that moment he knew how much this meant to him. The wonder and fantasy he had used a childhood to escape a life of being someone he wasn’t stood before him with strange hair and even stranger eyes. The doubt stayed with him as it always would, ever the suspicious critique, no belief in his life was ever held for the mystic. But, as he knew he would, when faced with proof he would believe her.
He wondered what thoughts were going through her head, he recoiled his statement about proof. For him, it wasn’t just about the desire to see proof, he wanted to see it. His curiosity was the driving force here and her mystery was more than enough to keep him hooked. He wondered what she thought of him, how she felt he thought about her. It must have seemed unusual, a person so willing to accept what she said; if it were anyone else they would be teasing. But he wasn’t like that, he always felt apart from the people in his life, the one off key in the chorus. He liked being the only snowflake during summer.
He turned his head slightly to face her when she leaned on the couch behind him. He smiled at her laughter and paused, nodding slowly. “I guess I’m just perceptive.” He said with a grin spreading quickly across his face.
Alex shrugged helplessly when she countered his school idea and responded with a simple “It fit.”
He leaned a bit away, unflinching, while she flipped herself over the couch and sat beside him, moving back slightly when she settled. He felt comfortable, and wasn’t sure why he had noticed so suddenly. However, he knew in the back of his mind why he felt so comfortable. It was her, the girl sitting less than a foot away from him whose eyes he met gladly.
His gaze was the same as hers, he took this time to study her unusual eyes, and the way they drew him in was magical. His grin turned into a simple thin smile and paused while she considered his request for proof. He could tell the offense he took to his request and wished in an instant he could take it back. His smile faded as he tried to correct himself, but she cut him off with her agreement, he nodded once, eyes breaking away from her gaze. He felt like an idiot for his inability to talk correctly. He was always being misunderstood; it was a problem, the way he talked. He jumped thoughts ahead and forgot that people couldn’t read his mind.
Eventually his excitement took Alex away from beating himself up and as her smile returned so did his. When she spoke he looked back to her eyes. Suddenly, she stood up and took his hand, pulling him up with her. His smile turned playful as he followed after her quickly. He stood opposite the main entrance and watched her patiently; he decided right then and there that no matter what she did, what trick she showed him, he would not be afraid. He decided that he would be brave, and stared with nothing more than wonderment and excitement.
When she extended her hand he wasn’t sure what to expect, when the ball of fire burst into exist on her palm he stared, not in shock or surprise because his smile widened to incredible lengths, he made what seemed like a gasping noise but it was only because he had held off breathing for so long. The only word he muttered quietly was amazing.
He nodded quietly, disappointment played in the back of his mind when she said she didn’t want to go overboard on tricks, because he certainly wanted her to. He wanted to find out everything she could do, every gift, talent, spell and special ability. But none of that showed on his face because he was completely happy with what he did see.
Well, everything except the fireball flying towards his head, he almost flinched but he stared at it intently, she wouldn’t burn him, he wouldn’t die a horrible screaming death. He trusted her. Fortunately, it paid off and he didn’t die a horrible screaming death. His eyes looked dead at the ball of fire, but then he noticed her and he looked at her, grinning ear to ear as a bead of sweat rolled down his face.
He watched her touchdown, so graceful in the simple movements…magical. He made sure to focus on whatever it was she was doing, not wanting to lose anything of the movement. He watched her hands to either side of the fireball before the fireball went shooting forward into a wall of fire and disappeared. He turned to her afterward and grinned, amazement clearly on his face. “I’m not surprised. If I could do things like that I’d set everything on fire…” He laughed quietly as he finished talking. He laughed again after she asked if he had had enough proof and explained her specialty. “Oh I could guess that would be your specialty, and it’s enough proof. More than I needed.” But it wasn’t more than he wanted. He strolled forward towards her, leaning forward, inches away from her face to study her eyes.
“This is incredible…some amazing dream I’m about to wake up from I’m sure.” He said with a note of sadness on the edge. He was joking, but the suggestion actually brought a bit of fear to him, oh please. He thought; please don’t let me wake up from this.
He shook off the feeling soon enough and leaned back away from her. “Thank you for showing me that.” He said with a half nod “But now that that’s out in the open, what do you want to do now? I mean, I could show you my special ability but I don’t think it really trumps that.” He gave a false weary sigh that quickly turned back into a smile. “But I’m the guest, so you choose!” He insisted. He was too overwhelmed and felt every time he talked his words were coming out strange. |

| This was almost one of the most exciting moments of her life that she could remember. Mindy had no idea why the fact that Alex now knew what she was and had guessed right made her so jittery, excited and happy but it just did. She hadn't even known the guy for 24 hours yet, though it felt like she had some sort of connection with him. He was someone that she could get along with and had stuff in common with. He made her happy and wasn’t fully scared of her… Well… No yet. She didn’t want to get ahead of herself. Alex didn’t seem to be too freaked out by the fact that she was a magician but he had yet to see what she could do. Would he be scared of her after he knew what she was capable of, the destruction that she could and has already done in the past? Mindy hoped so much that he wasn’t just another regular person like back home. Well, technically people back home were anything but regular. However, the young witch hoped that Alex would see past the fact that she could cause destruction and chaos and just see her for her. Not for what her powers could do, like the people back home. That was the whole reason why they were scared of her. Because she had a temper and was capable of such evil things.
Somehow, Alex didn’t seem like that so far though. Perhaps it was because he was just a normal human who didn’t know she was a witch until not. Maybe that would change things, because he got to know her a little bit for just her before he knew that she had powers. For now though, Mindy stopped walking when she made it behind the couch and she leaned her elbows on the top of the couch beside Alex’s head as he answered her question as to how he figured it out. When the boy mentioned that one of the reasons was because of the fire, her eyes widened before she busted out laughing. She listened to the rest of his reasons before she smirked and giggled a little more to herself. “I didn’t think anyone saw that little magic fire trick I did earlier. Wow, that’s a little embarrassing. I’m supposed to be keeping this stuff a secret and boom, you knew right away almost. And hey, I could have just transferred from a different boarding school or something. The whole school thing wasn’t -that- mysterious, I didn’t think.” Mindy said with a grin before she flipped herself over the couch so that she was now sitting beside Alex, looking straight at him. At least she didn’t have to be nervous about looking him straight in the face now, even though her eyes were still strange, he knew why.
Though, there was something in his voice that was strange and the grin slowly vanished from her pale face. And then when Mindy asked if he needed proof, he repeated the word almost instantly. He half didn’t believe her. She could tell that part of him did but the other half… Didn’t. How could he not believe this? Well, that was simple but did she seem like the type that would lie to people? Did he think she was lying to him just to get attention or something? Then he quickly saved himself and somewhat apologized to her with that last comment. “Ah, okay then.” She said, her smile returning to her as she took his hand. “Proof it is then.”
Mindy quickly stood up from the couch and pulled the dark haired male up with her before running into the big, main entrance that they were in before. “Yeah, okay. You want proof, Alex?” She asked before letting go of his hand and running to the other side of the room. “Then proof you’ll get.” With that being said, Mindy held out her hand beside her and a small fireball appeared, floating above the palm of her hand. “I’m not sure if I want to go too overboard on the tricks right now…” She said, throwing the fireball in Alex’s direction. As it was just about to hit him, Mindy appeared, her hand behind the fireball to stop it as she floated in mid-air. “.. I’m still a little tired from the transition between my world to yours.”
Her feet gently landed back down onto the ground and she turned her back to Alex, holding her hands on either side of the fireball before quickly outstretching her arms to either side of her and the fireball went shooting forwards, turning into a wall of fire before it just disappeared. “Wow.. That felt good. I’ve wanted to do that -all- day.” Mindy told herself before turning around to look at Alex again. “Proof enough for you or do you want me to show you something else? My specialty is fire and it’s… Heh… Well it’s the only element magic that I can do. So if you were expecting me to conjure up like.. Pretty flowers then you’re out of luck.” She said jokingly with a small laugh.
((Heh heh... Hope this is good for you, love. ^^ I'm a little rusty from not rping in a little while so I need to get bck into the swing of things. XP ))
