| So Umm my poem is a little different to what everyone else has been posting. This was a year seven school assignment that I wrote when I was 12.Well It took of rather well and I've shown it to the old diggers at the RSL.So I'm really proud of this one sure like I said it's different to what others put up,but considering I was 12 at the time the response I got from adults was somewhat overwhelming. [Yr 7 school assignment] As I wake up in the morning I see bullets passing me one person falls over it’s a life or death situation God help me
The guy in the bunker next to be is shot. life and soul lost forever I shiver from neck to toes God help me
We have to change from the back line to the front My friend slaps me on the back that’s the last I saw of him
God help me We fire at Johnny Turks Hit one hit two I counted twenty-six dead by my own fire arm God help me
I hear a cry my friend is on the ground I try to help I try to move my legs wont move I wana ask him is he alright No sound came from my mouth God help me
I still see them all standing with me By my side I feel guilt, why couldn’t it have been me and not my friends why? As I tell my grandchildren this story I hold back tears God help them | |
