Selfish Journey-another path(private.) - Page 5 Meikopretty

She didn't catch his blush, and was intent on sitting there in silence eating their food. However, he stood up and abruptly left, saying he'd meet her at the main road. The bluntness of his words stung her, and she had half a mind not to show up at all where he waited for her. She couldn't ignore her angry stomach, so she finished eating as he left. She stared blankly into the fire and sighed softly. He had obviously had a change in heart and didn't want someone to travel with. She had tried to do everything in the right way. She cupped her chin in her palm as she gazed into the fire. Meiko gathered up the food she had for later, and knocked his breakfast into the flames, walking away from the fire.

Meiko walked casually over to the main road, and hardly looked at him as he asked her the question. She nodded curtly. He hadn't meant to be rude, but it came off that way. She had caught them food, and he had just left it there like it didn't matter she had thought about him. Even if he wasn't hungry, he shouldn't have been so rude. He was obviously a spoiled brat who was used to wasting things he had been given, and taking them for granted. So they walked. She didn't speak to him, or point out things like she had done yesterday. She didn't hum quietly or even cast him a glance. Meiko kept her hard golden eyes ahead, and kept her thoughts to herself.

Zero pretended to be sleeping soundly. He could hear her approaching he felt a cold sweat, and a heat rush up his spine. He slowly rolled over to look over the limb. He rubbed his eye's as if he had just woken up looking to sell his performance. He forcefully caused himself to slow down as he descended the tree. She had seen him wake up before if he had to much vitality she might think something was wrong. He reached the ground floor in his own time. He released a sigh, this is where it became hard. He forced himself to yawn looking around, and trying to gather her knowledge from her facial expressions. "Wow you already started another fire, and are cooking." He smiled it was nice to be welcomed awake with the smell of food. He this was the second time since he'd been traveling since he'd been traveling he had wild meat. He could catch them easily enough, but haad now way to cook them when he was on his own. "Thank you." He spoke enthusiastically. As he sat down he began to think that it might not be that bad traveling with a companion. He was just about to bite into the food when he happened to look up at her. Suddenly he pictured her naked at the river, her body glistening with water. The memory tied his stomach in knots killing his appetite. He turned his attention to the ground, and let his hair cover his face so she could see his blush. "I'm sorry, but i'm not hungry. Thank you again though, i really do appreciate it." He realized that he couldn't have a friend travel with him she would definitely distract him now, and he had no true intention of returning. To even think for a moment...that... he felt disappointed in himself. He stood up. "Not to be rude, but once your finish meet me near the main road, i'll be waiting so we can continue." He spoke very kindly, but his words had obvious distance in them. He did...shouldn't trust her. He didn't know her, and there was to much about her, and her actions that didn't sync up. He waited at the main road for her to join him. He had a gentle smile so that it seemed nothing was wrong. "So are we ready to get a move on?" Though he wanted to ask more questions. He realized that would only prompt more questions from her, and that was unwise. Besides he didn't need to know anymore than he knew at this point.

Meiko delicately pulled the withering lily from her hair and set it down into the water, watching as it floated down the stream. She turned her attention back to her body, and casually scrubbed at her skin. The water was warm this time of the year, so lucky for her she didn't even need to heat it. The dream she had had was still disturbing her peace of mind. She had never really thought about how much she enjoyed the water. She never realized that it would be odd for cat demons to be graceful ice skaters, or to bathe openly in a flowing stream. She fought the current to make her way over to her clothes and began to scrub them as best as she could. She summoned a bit of fairy magic to draw in the aroma from the life around her, and in no time, her clothes has looked brand new again. Once they dried, with a bit of help from her fire powers, they would smell as fresh as they looked.

She made her way back over to the deeper part of the stream and pulled the ribbon out of her hair. Stringing her fingers through the bun, her hair flowed freely behind her. She dipped back to soak her hair, coursing her fingers through her hair to clean it as best as she could. This was routine for her, and she closed her eyes as she untangled her hair in the cool water. With her head dipped back under the water and her body exposed freely, she couldn't hear the commotion that Zero had caused. Once she pulled her head out of the water, she crossed out of the stream and snagged her clothes up. She dried her hair by running her fingers through the dark wet strands, and dried her clothes by handling them carefully. She was fully dressed and wrapped her hair back into her messy bun with her ribbon when her stomach growled.

By the time she had made it back to where they settled last night, she had caught 2 rabbits and skinned them for breakfast, and had wrapped 4 skinned fishes in large leaves for lunch. She looked up at Zero, to see him sleeping still, and smiled softly to herself. She had gotten all of this done without him even stirring. He'd have quite a surprise for him when he woke up! Her smile grew as she put the meat down to cook next to the fire. The food was almost finished cooking when he finally woke up. She called up to him, "Good morning." She waited a beat, and then continued, "While you've been snoozing all morning, I've already caught us breakfast and lunch." She grinned from ear to ear as she beckoned for him to join her by the welcoming fire.

Selfish Journey-another path(private.) - Page 5 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Selfish Journey-another path(private.)   Selfish Journey-another path(private.) - Page 5 EmptyWed May 20, 2009 5:49 pm

Zero woke up slowly like he tended to do in the morning the moon had faded away, and a cool wind sweapt through the forest. The suns warming rays pierced through the tree's landing softly on his skin, and waking him to reality. "San." He said waking up slowly. He had a blank look on his face as he turned from side to side taking in the sights around him. He let out a large yawn, he rested back against the tree ready to snooze off, but his acute sense of smell didn't pick up Meiko's scent. He quickly turned over looking over the side of the large limb to look for her. She was nowhere in sight.
He forced himself up. 'Had she decided to leave in the middle of the night. But even if she did she would've left some type of goodbye or informed him.' Hm...he decided to turn up his ear, since they were more reliable than his nose. His ears twitched lightly as he searched for Meiko. Suddenly he heard something like low humming. He listened closer, but still wasn't sure. If he was wrong, and she had indeed left he would just be wasting time. disregaurding his better judgement he rushed to the river.

He could definately hear something now, but whatever it was wasn't saying anything, but they were breathing which meant living, and from the amounts human sized. His ears twitched more as he tried to pick up more sounds. He was near the river, but if it wasn't Meiko it might be a problem to be seen. He quickly jumped into a tree, and continued hoping from limb to limb until he was at the river. He jumped along the tree's along the river bank till he began to make Meiko out. However as he got closer something didn't seem right. He caused his pupils to dialate as much as they could increasing the distance of what he could see. He could see her face, but her body was hidden behind atree that stood in his way. He blinked, and rubbed his eye's doing that was a bit of a strain. He rushed forward quietly thinking he'd sneak up on her. If she was planning something she'd do it in private, and near the river so his ears wouldn't be able to pick it up well.
He was right atop her to late to turn back. He looked down, and took in the full view of her naked body. His eye's remained glued on her, so much so he didn't notice the branch slowly begin to crack. He'd never seen a woman naked before, and Meiko was quite an exceptional sight to behold. All at once the branch snapped. He jumped back at the last second. He didn't turn around running back to camp, and returning to his tree. He could've sworn he felt heat on his butt as he dashed back to the site where they had slept. He returned to the tree where he'd spent the night pretending to sleep until she arrived back. He prayed she hadn't seen, or heard him.

Selfish Journey-another path(private.) - Page 5 Meikopretty

She ate quietly, trying to ignore the random looks he would give her. Under his gaze, she felt very self conscious. She pulled her kimono tighter around her, and fiddled with the silky red ribbon in her hair. She tried remembering how to eat properly, back from her Fairy Isle days, and she ate slowly. As the night enveloped them in it's dark embrace, Meiko added more logs to the fire and began to feel less antsy. Finally, she turned her body to face Zero fully, tilting her head in question. "Is there a reason why you're looking at me like that?" She narrowed her golden orbs into tiny slits as she peered at him. His answer was one she wasn't expecting, in turn, she looked away to hide the crimson the rose to her cheeks.

'He says the most awkwardest things..." She thought to herself, untying the large purple ribbon around her waist to slide the white kimono off her shoulders. Her kimono was getting quite filthy, she'd have to find a stream to wash it in the morning. Until then, she didn't want to cause any more damage to it. She folded it up neatly, and wrapped the purple ribbon around it, placing a rock on it to keep it down in case the wind should pick up during the night. She looked over at him as he walked over to the tree and hopped up it. They hadn't spoken about him being an elf all night, and Meiko didn't mind. She was used to seeing elves, they were common in Fairy Isle. They seldom traded with one another, although they weren't always on the greatest terms. Last she had heard, the two communities had stopped trade due to bad blood. It wasn't any of her business anymore, and she chose to keep that life in the past.

"See you in the morning." She called up to him, settling close to the fire and laying on her side on top of the lush grass. She closed her eyes, and very slowly began to drift into a troubling sleep. Her dream came to her in a fog, and she heard her mother's firm voice, "This is not only a cat demon's greatest fear, but also a fire demon's greatest weakness. You will not have these weaknesses like the rest of us. I want you to overcome the things your brother and I have not. Skate Meiko..." She heard her younger voice, and a trembling slide across the ice. "What if the ice breaks?" A soft laughter echoed in her dream, and with love and tenderness she said, "Then you must learn to swim."

A rushing sensation of cold shook her body, and with a small yelp, she woke up. She wrapped her arms around her shivering body, and snapped a finger, reawakening the dead fire. Meiko turned her head to check on Zero, and then focused back on the fire. The pain that constantly held her heart squeezed tighter, and with a sigh, she pulled her knees to her chest. An hour or so later, the sun began to rise. She gathered up her white kimono and ribbon, and searched for a stream. When she finally found one, she stripped off her velvet dress and began to bathe herself as her clothes soaked in the water, the dirt and sweat freeing itself from the fabric and drifting away with the current.

Zero grinned back at her gently. "yes let's." It didn't take Mieko long before the fire was back set up, and they were both eating the meat. Before Zero ate though he closed his eye's, and pressed his hand together praying. "i thank the forest for it's kind bounty." he said smiling at her. He wanted her to know he wasn't just acting weird, but he stared at her quite alot as they ate. To some it may have seemed to be a look of admiration, but that wasn't it at all. With his eye's he was trying to see past the fascade he suspected she was putting up. 'Why would this girl ask me to accompany her if she possess that kind of power, not to mention her reflexes were honed almost as if she were trained, she was not a regular demon. But when she saw his ears she didn't give much of a reaction, had she seen elves before they were rather rare in this land.' he found all these things very strange, and they grew stranger the more he thought about them. Being a fire based demon she also knew how to skate on ice...did i make a mistake using that technique infront of her? Something about this all just wasn't right, but he tried to not let his thinking expression show on his face. She said something that suddenly made him realize he was staring. "I'm sorry...i..."he had to think quickly. "i...was just admiring you..." he gave no thought to what that would actually sound like until it had already rolled off his tongue. He quickly tried to change the subject. "It really is a beautiful night isn't it? we are truly blessed." He released a small yawn. "Well with all of this excitement i've become a little tired. " He walked to a near by tree, and pressed his hand to it. 'this'll do fine.' he thought to himself. "i'll be up here if you need me." he said pointing up into the tree. He leapt up landing on a branch closet to him. He jumped up two more, and leaned back on the thick branch. He looked down at her scanning her with his eye's for a few moments before rolling over, and going to sleep.

Meiko had barely escaped the beats clutches, luckily though, it was fixated on attacking her. While it was swinging at her, Zero had done an ice trick. Ground began to freeze, and it caught the beast in it's place. The ground within a foot radius of Meiko and her blade remained untouched by the ice. She glanced over to Zero, amazed by his ability. He told her to finish it off, and she nodded swiftly. Meiko skated out onto the ice gracefully, after she slid over the ice, it would begin to melt behind her, leaving a strip of green grass behind her as she slid on. It didn't occur to Meiko that the level of skill she had for ice skating wouldn't be just beginner's luck, but something that was practiced long and hard. Something from her past that she had forgotten about, but the skill still clung to her.

Meiko's legs carried her to the laxadon, and in one agile moment, she had lifted off the ground with one foot, and spun skillfully into the air. As she spun, she extended her sword arm and the flame grew boldly. With her sword hand out, she slashed down long and hard, melting and piercing through the ice, and as she began to land, she dragged her sword down into the beast across his lower stomach, and landed gracefully on one foot besides the monster. She spun quickly, and with her free hand, a blazing fireball zoomed out of her hand, landing a direct blow on the underbelly of the laxadon. The monster lit up in flames, and the surrounding ice in the area melted rapidly under their feet as the beast writhed around in a tormenting fire, until finally, ashes drifted into the gentle night breeze. Meiko placed her sword away and looked over to Zero, then her eyes traveled to where their fire had once been. Their dinner still uncooked sitting on a rock next to it. "Mmm.... Let's finish up with dinner." She placed a hand on her hungry stomach, grinning with fangs at Zero.

Zero was quite impressed with Meiko's level of power. He watched as the beast was knocked back. Even if not defeated for her to have the ability to heal, then unnatural power like that was simply crazy. It was then he knew he never wanted to meet her in battle. As the flames struck at the beast, and it yelled in agony Zero thought the beast had been toppled, but to his displeasure the mighty beast had not. IT shook it's body as if trying to shake something off then turned to Meiko. (IT was just slightly larger than a Rhino with two powerful tusk that grow on the sides of it's face, and It's back had three large spikes sticking out of it. a long thick club like tail that also was covered in small spikes. He gave a strange noise as it stomped the ground it's attention fixed on Meiko. After a few moments it charged at her as fast as it could move it's legs it's tusk sharp, and on point. At the last moment moment just before the beast stabbed her through with it's mighty tusk Meiko jumped out of the way causing the beast to get it's tusk caught in a tree. However it didn't last long the beast quickly free'd itself. Once again turning to Meiko.
Zero imagined he'd become somewhat invisible to the monster due to it's rage which was perfect. Zero closed his eye's, and pressed his hands together. As he slowly pulled them apart a small blue ball could be seen forming. He quickly pulled his right hand back, the ball seemed to have a gravitational pull to that hand it followed the hand as it rose, and then was pushed down into the ground. Instantaneously. the whole ground frosted over, ice formed up the legs of the beast freezing it in place. Zero breathed heavily, his body felt drained from the technique. It was a high technique that was only to be used in serious situations, and because it took so long to form concentrated cold it was dangerous, and risky to use on a one on one. He breathed a heavy sigh. "Meiko, please finish it. The ground with thaw, and he will get free." He rested up agaisnt a tree.

Meiko stared curiously at his pointed ears, wondering why he would have to hide that he was an elf. Was he ashamed of being an elf? Why would he be ashamed? Her hand lingered under his ear for a moment before she slowly drew it back, placing it in her lap. She was about to open her mouth to speak to him when the ground began to tremble beneath her. She hardly had time to dart to the side by the time Zero shouted a warning at her. Meiko moved swiftly, sliding across the ground to the left and spinning on her feet to face the beast that had interrupted their quiet moment together. She felt a cold blast of wind rush by her, the fire she made flickered out as it smacked the monster back; their dinner would have to wait. She growled quietly, tightening her fist as the ache in her stomach grew.

She drew her sword from it's sheath. Her sword was a jian, a double edge Chinese blade with a black an orange tassel that hung from her hilt. Meiko heard Zero's whisper, she assumed thats what this beast was called. She wouldn't hesitate and wait for another attack. Meiko rushed forward, tightening her grip on her hilt as the blade lit up in flames. She sprinted from the ground into the air, and then drove the sword down to tear into the beasts shoulder. He lifted an arm and knocked her back, she slid along the ground on her back, clutching her sword in a deadly hold. Meiko rose again, spreading her feet apart in a firm stance as the beast came towards her. Her face was one of determination, as she refused to back down. Swinging her flaming blade into the air, she brought it down to the ground. Fire from the tip of the blade struck the ground, and raced along the ground towards the laxadon, striking him hard on the side, he roared in agony as the flames licked at him, rolled, and when the flames vanished, contiued to advance towards them.

Zero watched her fangs begin to show. He wondered if that was because she was about to eat, or if it was because she was hungry. Either way this girl was becoming more fascinating to study as time went on. Not thinking anything of her scooting closer he smiled. "I am fine thanks to you. I could've very easily been dead had you not stopped along the way." He continued to thank her for her actions of yesterday. The refreshing cool air was nice the cave was good for keeping warm, but felt kind of stuffy. He backed up a little though not out of her grasp as she touched his face. 'What was she doing?' he wondered. He turned his attention to her. His eye's almost automatically found their way to hers. He was instantaneously transfixed. Her beautiful golden eye's were truly breathtaking, but that is not what kept his attention it was more so the depth. They were like bottomless pools drawing him in. They screamed pains, and strife that he'd never known in his life. Without realizing it he let a single tear roll down his cheek. He was brought out of his thoughts by her soft spoken question. Though his mind was back his body still felt paralyzed with sadness for her. So as she brushed his hair back revealing her ear he didn't immediately respond. It took a moment he quickly sat up, and covered his ear. "I...ah..." He backed up.
That's when his ears picked up a troubling sound the ground beneath them began shaking. A large animal with a thick hide appeared behind Meiko." Meiko watch out!" Zero shouted.Just before the monster hit the camp it was knocked back by a wall of wind, and snow; which also knocked out the fire. It didn't take long for the beast to get back up. Zero thought hard, he knew he'd seen this animal before, but where? in a text book. "a loxadon." he whispered. A loxadon's only weak spot was it's soft underbelly. If he had his sword he could channel his powers so much better, but without it he could only do so much he was mainly defensive. "Are you ok?" he called out to Meiko.

Meiko raised a brow in his direction at his answer. She knew for a fact that he wasn't human, Meiko knew what human blood smelled like. And when she healed him, he didn't have a drop of human blood on his being. His clothes wreaked of humans, but that could easily be explained by where ever he had purchased the outfit. She didn't understand why he would have to hide who he was, but she quickly remembered his distrust of people. The curious brunette bit her tongue, and held back the wave of curiosity she felt. She simply nodded and glanced away. They trudged on a bit more before finally settling in a clearing.

Zero provided the food and Meiko roasted the logs until a blazing fire was burning brilliantly between them. She hadn't said much since he tried to slip a lie past her, but that was because now she was in deep thought, trying to figure out exactly what he was. She didn't want to come out and completely accuse him of being a liar, it really wasn't any of her business. She thought if she watched him carefully enough that she would catch onto what he was by his behavior. She placed the frozen food on a rock near the fire to thaw it. Meiko tilted her head to the side, gazing down at the meat. Why was it frozen? She glanced up at Zero, then smiled slowly as he swatted at the invisible bugs flying above his head.

She flipped the food over so it could thaw on both sides when he asked her if she was okay. Meiko nodded. "Of course i am. I'm just feeling very... ravenous." She grinned wickedly, the tip of her fangs peeking out behind her lips. They hadn't ate all day, but had walked without many breaks. She was exhausted, and very hungry. "Are you okay? You seem...Uneasy." She scooted over a bit closer to him, placing a hand to his cheek. His cheek was hot under her hand and she pursed her lips together. "You feel a bit warm...Are you sick?" Catching him off guard momentarily, she brushed a strand of hair out of his face, reaching it back to tuck it behind his ear... That's when she spotted the pointed tips and felt him tense under her touch. "Ah..." She breathed quietly.

Zero watched as she picked up the flower. He assumed she was imparting unto him some wisdom as she spoke of the flower of more than a flower, and using as a symbol. Zero almost felt as if she was talking to him as an ignorant child. He didn't say anything not wanting to give her reason to think that, and since opening his mouth would only prove that he remained quiet, and nodded.
As she tied the flower among her hair, and smiled at him. He wondered if he considered her one amongst her ranks. He thought for a moment he had indeed gone against not only his parents wishes, but his own better judgement, so in a way... He smiled, and nodded. "I guess you are right."He should've realized that asking the question of race would only bring it up toward him.
"You can't tell? don't i have a humans scent?" he questioned. He wondered just how sharp her nose were. Though he was an elf he made sure to buy garbs from a human in the last village he visited in an attempt to cover his scent.
He stood there for a moment as she examined him. She didn't say anything right away he was sure she was contemplating. His sense of smell could only possibly be half of hers if she was a cat demon. It wasn't much longer before the sun was beginning to set, luckily though the night was gentle, and a nice breeze blew by them. Zero found a nice clearing, and gathered a small amount of dried sticks, and logs. he even caught some food though for some reason they were frozen. Meiko still hadn't said she believed he was human, however she still hadn't out loud called him a liar; though now she seemed to be looking at him with a slight amount of intrigue. He was very much regretting using his powers to catch their food now. He plopped down near the fire. "are you ok? did i do something?" a gentle breeze tickled his ear. he quickly rose his hair to cover it moving his hair so that it couldn't be seen. "Bugs everywhere!" he said with a laugh trying to mislead her.

Selfish Journey-another path(private.) - Page 5 Meikopretty

They were quiet most of the walk, but Meiko didn't mind. She enjoyed taking a look at the scenery. Every once in a while, they would say something, or she would point out something she noticed. Her interest was mostly held by him. She watched him from the corner of her eyes, curiously trying to figure things out about him. It was obvious he wasn't from the poor class, and he couldn't have been human. Meiko took a deep breath breath, trying to place what exactly he was. His scent was unfamiliar to her though, although she smelled no demon blood. Meiko decided she'd find out soon enough, he'd have to fight the bandits sometime.

Then he tossed a question at her that made her laugh aloud. The ears atop her head twitched, as if on cue, as she said, "You really can't tell?" Meiko teased gently. She lifted a hand, the tugged carefully on one of her cat ears, stroking it softly between her fingertips. "It's in my nature to be curious." She stopped where she was walking and crouched down to examine a lonely, blooming red flower on the side of the road. Her fingers caressed the soft petals tenderly before delicately plucking the flower out of it's resting spot. She cupped it between her hands, smiling up at Zero.

"Asiatic Lilies usually grow in numbers, this one was sitting all alone on the side of the road..." Her voice trailed off momentarily before she finished what she was saying. "Every once in a while, you'll find that things abandon the standards set for them, and they'll go about things their own way." She unwounded the red ribbon in her hair that was wrapped around her bun, and she tucked the flower into her hair, carefully nestling the lily into her hair, and then wrapping the ribbon back around it to keep it secure. "For those of us who abandon our packs... We tend to find others who've done the same." Meiko smiled at him, her cat ears twitching again. Generally, the cat demons traveled in packs: tigers, panthers, lions, and other wildcats came together to protect what they have. "I'm a tiger demon." She confirmed, in case he hadn't figured it out. She didn't care to mention that she was only half, and wouldn't reveal her wings to him if he asked what else she was. "And you? What exactly are you....? Not a demon." She said, tilting her head to the side curiously as they continued their walk.

He nodded his head. "Thanks, but i couldn't ask you for anything more than what you've already done from here on out i'll be trying to pay you back." he smiled at her. He then closed his eye's he had to concentrate. It was only a moment before he smiled, and said. "We'll take the right road, i mean i think that's what would be best." he kept up the smile. He watched as she caused the flame to flicker out. He smiled. "That must make it easy i generally see people try to smother it, and that takes a bit of time. Thank you for joining me."
He took the lead she stayed close behind him. As they walked he slowly began to accumulate a number of questions for her, but didn't exactly know how to go about asking her. They had walked in silence now for about an a few hours or so with the exception of a small joke, or interesting site here, and there before he finally began to ask questions.
"um if you don't mind me asking what kind of demon are you?" He hoped he didn't cross any boundaries. "I was just curious, i mean i've met demons before, but for a demon you're a little..." It took him a moment before coming up with the right word inquisitive. The sky had cleared up, and Zero's blonde hair was shinning in the sun. He much preferred the cloudy storm like weather. He walked along side meiko waiting for her response. She had piqued his interest not a small feet by far.

Meiko smiled at him, grateful he was letting her join him, if only for a bit. "I'll help you catch those bandits so you can get your things back. And then, if we find our paths go separate ways, we'll split." She said swiftly, and then held er hand out, the fire flickering out, vanishing altogether. Meiko knew they wouldn't be near a town anytime within the next few days, she had traveled these roads many of times before, and the next town was three days travel on foot. She figured by then, she'd have either convinced him to allow them to travel together, or she would have changed her mind because of the chances she always took with her brother showing up.

She stepped outside of the cave, looking over towards the right, the path that lead to the next town. To the left, it was just a few miles of forest that eventually ended, and on the other side of the forest was the ocean. It was obvious the direction the bandits would have taken. She looked over to Zero though, waiting for him to make the decision for which direction they should take. After all, she was the guest here. And she had a role to play, she didn't want to seem too assertive, or too capable of handling herself. He may get suspicious and know she wasn't really looking for someone to protect her, but for a bit of company to ease her heavy heart. "Hmm... I wonder where we should start." She said, placing a hand to her hip as she gazed up at him, a tender smile on her pink lips.

Zero woke slowly the following morning. He rubbed his eye's slowly, and let out a large yawn. As he tended to do when he woke up his let his soft purple eye's scan the area looking for any abnormalities. He blinked a few times, and scratched behind his ear. Before he noticed Meiko was up moving he was greeted with a good morning. It surprised him a bit causing him to really wake up, and become more alert. He found it suspicious that she had gotten up so early he checked to make sure nothing had been done to him, though he made it look as if he was just fondling around with no particular objective. His cloak lay neatly folded on the ground. He rose to his feet with a yawn, and picked it up. He shook it a few time removing any loose dirt, and tied it on.
He walked near the exit, and stood there for a moment. The sky was still a little gray, but it looked like it was clearing up however to be sure. He stepped further out of the cave so she couldn't see he moved his hair from his ears closed his eye's, and listened for any sounds of a change in weather. With none in radius that he could hear he turned back to her to begin to say bye, which is when she suggested they travel together. He felt divided by the choice he now had to make. Either say no disregaurding her unscrupulous kindness, or say yes bringing her along on a quest he didn't necessarily have intentions of returning from. He thought for a moment standing in silence. "I don't think you want to travel with me you don't even really know me, but i'd be more than willing to accompany you to a nearby town, and from there you can go about your way. I'm sure their'd be somebody there willing to help you." He felt it was a fair compromise, and it might not be a bad idea to have her around at least until he got back his money, weapon, and items.

She sent a questioningly look over at him as he told her to call him Zero instead. For some reason, it just seemed to suit him better then 'San' did. She wondered if he had used it as precaution, giving a false name before he could tell if he could trust her. She didn't understand how telling him she couldn't recall her memories had made him trust her more then a few moments ago. What if she had been a psycho when her memories were erased? What if she had hurt a lot of people? She could have been a horrible person, and instead, it made him trust her more? Meiko didn't understand, but only nodded at his suggestion.

The brunette almost refused his cloak, she didn't want any gifts from him. Truth was, Meiko rarely got cold. The fire always warmed her blood, but her legs were slightly cold. She didn't imagine that he would feel uncomfortable with sitting so close to a girl with little clothing on. At his words of departure, her heart ached quietly. She would miss the company she had, and had almost argued with him that he would still need to rest. She imagined that he would want to chase after the bandits though and retrieve his things. She immediately thought of assisting him, and would ask him about it in the morning. She had a feeling it would be tricky to get him to allow her to accompany him, he wasn't a trusting guy.

After he fell asleep, Meiko slowly dozed about an hour later. Through the night she tossed and turned with nightmares of darkness, and flashes of her mother's terrified face. Images of her menacing brother attacking her, and then slowly, the perpetual darkness again. She woke with a start before the sun had rose, shivering violently as the wind blew in. The cloak was tossed to the side, and the fire had died out. To her relief, Zero was still there, fast asleep. Her grogginess from last night had vanished, and she felt revitalized. Meiko bent forward, lighting the fire quietly, and it cackled to life immediately. She waited quietly for Zero to awake.

An hour or so later, Zero finally woke up. She was anxious, eager to tell him of her plans. Before allowing him to gather himself up and leave, she spoke quickly. "Good morning." She flashed a friendly smile at him. While he was asleep, she had wrapped her kimono around herself and tied her ribbon tightly around her waist, strapping her the sheath of her sword to the ribbon around her waist. Meiko had thought about it all morning, and he seemed like a very humble, but stubborn guy. He was set in his ways, and didn't think he needed any help. So she would play the role of a girl needing assistance. He'd think she needed to rely on him, which wasn't a complete lie. "I was thinking about what you said last night. I really shouldn't be traveling alone..." She paused, chewing on her bottom lip carefully as she looked over at him. "And you know, I could be of use to you. I can make fires, I can roast a decent fish, and I can help you find those thieves who stole your things." Meiko smiled hesitantly, "I hope you don't think I'm being too advanced, I'd just really feel a bit more comfortable traveling with you then I would alone... Who would I be able to rely on if the same thing that happened to you happens to me? We've got to be able to count on somebody in this world..." She finished, her eyes glistening by the firelight.

"Your memory is gone?" he questioned. He noticed the pause meaning she had let a little to much slip. At first he chalked it up to her not being able to control herself, but now he felt as if he should tell her something just to even things up it was only proper; or at least that's how he balanced it out in his mind. He ran his fingers through his hair in a slightly frustrated fashion. "Don't call me San anymore please, from now on i'd like it if you called me zero instead." he gave her a weak smile. He rubbed his eye, and gave a large yawn. He was quite tired, and he was aware that the quicker he slept the earlier he'd get up, and the faster he'd get back on track. The Rain was now coming down hard with powerful violent winds, but for some reasons the sounds of the raging storms didn't faze him. He scooted himself closer to the fire. He looked at what Meiko was wearing even if she controlled fire there was no way that skimpy outfit could be very warm. He slowly untied his cloak, and handed to her. "Here please use this." He tried to make himself comfortable up against the wall. "I will leave in the early mourn. Quite possibly before you wake up." He released another large yawn. "If we meet again then i will find a way to repay you." he said with a true, and kind smile. "i like people like you." With those last words spoken he let himself drift asleep.

Meiko hadn't caught onto the looks he had given her at all, and when he answered her questions, she was careful to listen closely. It didn't sound like lies, but something just didn't hold true with his words. She didn't give off the impression that she didn't believe him though, instead just nodded. When the direction of the conversation shifted towards her, she squirmed a bit closer to fire, getting uncomfortable. She was hesitant to speak about herself, because she didn't know much about herself. Her memories were either mixed up in a jumble, or gone altogether. For 2 years now, she had been trying to gather her memories. Only a few things had come back to her though, and that was a landmark called Mount Dia, a cabin in the woods, and the horrified face of her beloved mother.

Meiko knew from the questions she had asked her brother that they hadn't belonged to a tribe or a clan, and the only other thing she had belonged to was the royal family on Fairy Isle. That was long ago though, and they had probably long forgotten Meiko, like she had almost done to them. Finally, she had come up with something to say to him. "Do I look like I would rely on a tribe?" She asked, shifting as she turned her body to look at him. "I don't take orders well from others, so being in a tribe where a leader would constantly be barking orders at me...? Eh.. No thank you." She flashed a quick grin. "Other then that, this life is the only one I've really known. I've been on my own for 2 years now. I can't remember much about my life before then..." A long pause drew between the two of them. She had already slipped and lead him into it, she might as well finish it. "My memories just sort of... vanished." She shrugged, trying to give the impression as if it wasn't a big deal. "This is the way I must live in order to survive." She smiled sadly, going back to Fairy Isle wasn't an option for her. Not until she pieced everything together.

Zero had to remind himself that he had told her his name was San. He had forgotten his mind was clear after putting all his energy toward getting them into the warm from the rain. The rain fell harder now, and a strong wind was about to pickup. IT seemed like a storm was on the way. It was a good thing they started moving when they did. He quickly defended himself trying to delecantly explain what he meant. "ah...now what i meant was you look small, and light, but you are even lighter than one would assume a petite woman like yourself to be." He released a sigh. She didn't seem unforgivingly annoyed. He assumed he dodged a bullet after sitting still for a few moments he was back to the condition he was under the tree meaning he didn't feel the strain on his body to much any longer, and the headache had gotten less severe. Even if they were now safe from the rain they still didn't have anyway to stay or even become warm. He was about to ask her if she had any idea's, but before he could ask she was already gathering firewood. He watched carefully hoping to gain the knowledge on how to build a fire. But instead of her doing it in a normal fashion once all the wood was piled up she created a flame in her hand, and let it fall to the ground lighting the wood. 'A demon...' He thought to himself looking at Meiko. Demons tended to either be mischevious, or ill tempered so he thought it best not to anger her.
He leaned himself up against the opposing wall of the cave. His eye's took in the full view of her feminine wiles, as the flames gave her a magical shadow that accented her beauty. He quickly turned his eye's from her. He wondered if she noticed, because she seemed to be turning to him, but it was only to ask him a few questions. He couldn't deny the fact that he'd not had much need to travel. "yeah i'm a bit of a pampered rich boy, but i know a little bit about survival, it's just...to someone like myself i don't need a whole lot of heat if i'm at full strength. I didn't for see an event like this happening it was my miscalculation, i'm even more so indebted to you it would seem." he said with a soft smile back. When she asked why he left. He fought back the urge to tell her it was none of her business, but she had done to much for him.
"I just wanted to see the world, where i come from seems like a small island i had to get out of there." he said lying. "So one day i said i refuse to take anymore, and ran away." which was only a half lie.
"What about you i mean, what would someone like you be doing wandering around alone. Not to say you aren't capable of taking care of yourself, but don't you have a tribe..." If she answered quickly it would be fine, because he wanted some information about her anyway, but if she didn't. He would say he meant home.
The small rain fall was slowly becoming a storm outside.

Meiko stopped struggling as he continued on without a delay. It bothered her to be handled so easily, especially by a boy who appeared to be weak. She felt his muscles tightening under her, and guilt began to wash over her like the rain. She clamped down hard on her bottom lip with her teeth, pressing herself closer to his body to ease the balance. In the distance, he had somehow managed to find a cave. Suddenly, she was intrigued. How had he managed to find this cave so easily? She narrowed her eyes, staring at the back of his head before it was swept off her face. She was placed carefully on the ground, and she gazed over at him. At his comment, she scrunched her face up in horror. "Do I look like I would weigh a lot?" Meiko glanced down at her body, placing a hand to her stomach and frowning.

She sighed softly, untying the purple ribbon around her waist that held her kimono together. She let it drop to the floor and shrugged her wet kimono off. She was now in a damp, velvet red dress that came above her knees. She stood up, looking around the cave for some dry sticks. Meiko gathered up a few dry sticks, and although it wasn't much, she began to make a fire between the two of them. Once she stacked the sticks together, Meiko stretched out her fingers, opening her hand wide. In a flash, a spiraling ball of flames danced above her hand. She touched it to one of the sticks, an instant later, they had a brilliant small fire between them. It wasn't terribly big, but it was enough to begin to slowly warm them. Meiko placed her wet clothes next to the fire to dry, and finally leaned back up against the cave wall.

She looked over at San, giving him a knowing smile. "My survival skills are fantastic." She laughed quietly. "You must be a rich boy running away to be with the lover your parents forbid." She teased him gently. "Because if you're used to traveling the roads on your own, the first thing you learn is how to make a fire. Luckily for me.." She shrugged casually, continuing, "It comes natural." Her friendly smile didn't fade as she looked into the fire. "Did you just set out on your own? What made you decide to leave your old life and hit the road? I can't imagine leaving everything you know behind..." Her voice faded with the end of the sentence as she tried desperately to search for the memories she had lost along the way.

Zero had no intention of letting her down he had to pay her back. "no..." he stated simply to her questions, and requests to be put down." i'm fine don't worry about me, but ...do you know of any places you passed that we could rest for the night. We can't sleep outside tonight." He sniffed the air. He closed his eye's the wind gently caressed his ears. There is a good chance that the rain will once again become heavy so we need somewhere safe to rest. He trudged forward his body still yelling at him. He was contemplating about whether or not to drop her off then go after the bandits regaurdless of his bodies condition. "we've got to get you somewhere safe especially since i might have to impose on your skills again."
Zero continued forward his ears picked up a sound in the wind where the air seemed to break. He made his way to where the sound broke luckily enough there was a cave. His eye's lit up with excitement, and accomplishment. He gently placed her down his breathing heavy he plopped to the ground. you know..." he took a breath. Even for your frame you are very light he smiled weakly leaning up against the cave walls. "Is this suitable?"

She narrowed her cat-like eyes in his direction as he began to scold her. She saved his life, and yet here he was, telling her it could have been a mistake. Then, a sly look crossed her face. "I knew you couldn't have been a thief or a monster. If you were, you were a horribly one at that since you were the one on the side of the road. So even if you were a monster, you were a novice. And I can handle that." Her arrogance showed, although she was in no mood to brag. Meiko thought of why she was out here, trying to escape the clutches of her brother. She shuddered at the memory, and replied, "No death wish. Just nothing to fear." She grinned widely.

Her grin was wiped clear off her face when he picked her up without warning. She squirmed on his back, her heart pounding fiercely in her ears. "I can walk...!" She whispered loudly in his ear, but ceasing her squirming. If she moved around too much, she would cause the both of them to come tumbling to the wet ground. Her kimono was already dirty enough, she didn't need to be covered in mud as well. "It really was no problem, just put me down and we'll look together." She wrapped her arms around his shoulders to keep herself hoisted. Meiko whimpered quietly, fearful he was going to drop due to his lack of strength. "You're still weak San, please put me down. We'll move faster with both of us on our feet." She racked her brain, trying to think of the last place she had seen shelter around here. She couldn't think of anywhere though.

"To tell you the truth i'm not going anywhere in particular. I was just living a life that was kind of a lie, and i desperately need to get away so i just set out one day. And while heading to nowhere inparticular i was attacked suddenly they swarmed me, and took everything even something that means more than life itself to me. As soon as we have gone our seperate way's i plan to find those who did this to me, and get it back, though that is none of your concern. " He clenched his fist as he spoke of his plan.
"But never mind me what are you doing around here by yourself?, and helping out a stranger is not smart. I could've easily enough myself have been a thief, monster or worst. you could've been in deep trouble. It was rather irresponsible, and shortsighted of you to take the actions as you did. Do you have a death wish? " he asked adding a small laugh. His head still lightly throbbed, but the longer he waited the farther away the bandits got away.
"The sun was beginning to set, but Meiko was in no condition to move. He looked at her. Without asking he hoisted her onto his back. "we've got to get to some warm shelter. It's embarrassing, but my survival skills are less than honed. So i don't know how to make a fire, but i might be able to find a cave or something. Standing caused his body great pain as well as his head, yet he refused to show it. He smiled kindly at her. "i must thank you again for your help."

Selfish Journey-another path(private.) - Page 5 SharpMeiko

Meiko shared a headache with him, and her muscles in her legs ached as well. When she healed others, however much she healed them, she took fifty percent of that and felt the pain herself. Meiko had to heal San completely, so she was feeling half of the pain he was in. Within a few hours though, the demon blood in her had begun to heal her aching muscles, but there was still a lingering pain. "Well San, it's nice to meet you. Even under these dreary circumstances." She smiled sheepishly and leaned her head back against the thin tree she was resting on. Her short white kimono was wet, but luckily she had a thin velvet red dress under her kimono. She wasn't dressed like a peasant, and she wasn't filthy like one. But she didn't have the look of nobility about her either.

The corner of her plump red lips tugged up into a sly grin as she rose a thin brow to question him. "I'm not sure I can trust you to keep the both of us safe after seeing how you ended up last time you tried to protect yourself." Meiko's eyes slid shut slowly as she rested quietly, but she wouldn't allow herself to fall asleep. "No, I'll just sit here and we'll both get the rest we need." She wanted to light a fire, but the rain was still coming down lightly, and she knew it would die out quickly. The sun was beginning to slowly set on the horizon, night was rushing towards them.

She opened her eyes, revealing golden orbs. In the distance, she could see the faint colors of a fading rainbow. It brought a smile to her face, and she took it as a good omen; Kyto would not find her tonight. "Where are you heading?" She asked him, turning her shimmering golden pools back onto him. "What happened to you out there on the dirt road? Was it a rival, or an enemy? Or just a crew of thieves?" Meiko was curious, it was in her nature. Atop her head, her tiger ears flicked backwards as she awaited his answers.
