Cho happened to be walking down the alley that night, not quite sure what compelled her to do so. She always walked, but never to such a dangerous place. She knew the kinds of things that happened in alleys. Especially with the humans. Despite their fear of demons, humans could be terrifying themselves. Cho knew this.

She lived alone. Both of her parents had died in an attack on their house when she was only five years old. Her parents had both been demons, though they could camouflage themselves well and look like humans to not be spotted. Unfortunately, Cho didn't have this gift and her ears on top of her head scared the first human to come to their house. Figuring that she was a demon could only mean that her parents were too, and they were killed. Her mother had given her time to escape, and having been too scared to say no, she took off running.

She had moved to a different part of the country. She refused to go to an orphanage, so she fended for herself until she had been old enough to get a job, and afford an apartment. She knew she'd never be able to afford a house on her own. She avoided being taken in by slave masters, for whenever one would come to her house, she hid, using her demonic tricks to scare most of them off. She refused to be sold and to become someone else's property, losing her freedom.

Walking down an alley, a small gasp came from her throat upon seeing Chen on the ground of the alley, she couldn't hide the surprise on her face. She immediately rushed over, noticing the torn clothes and revealed parts. She frowned. Worried for her but not having too much time to ponder on what happened to the poor girl, she gently touched her shoulder, hearing her mew.

Her golden eyes widened slightly. So she was a demon too. Not quite sure what to think now, she felt a small anger starting to boil inside of her. It may have been different had this girl been a human, but this was a demon, her kind of people. It made the anger grow. She smelled blood, lots of it, and frowned. She had to get this girl home. Quick.

"You're going to be okay now," Cho whispered softly, tucking a strand of silver hair behind her ear as she reached down to gently pick her up. "Everything's going to be fine," she reassured.

Chen was born in a small rural home, where the fact that she had ears and a tail was an easily kept secret. Unlike most humans, her mother actually thought the ears and tail were cute, not even aware that her own daughter was truthfully a nekomata.

Chen grew up to be a very active girl around the farm, but when she first went to the town marketplace when she was four, a nearby priest panicked and called her a demon. Of course she wasn't old enough to know what a "demon" was, but her mother knew full well what he was saying, and although she defended her daughter then, he was able to plant the seeds of doubt in her mind. What if her own daughter really was a monster...?

Then, at sixteen, it finally happened. Her mother died of disease, and her father, now overwhelmed and no longer in his right mind, began to hate Chen, eventually climaxing to a point where he sold her to a cruel, cruel man. Chen suffered countless beatings, often acting under the threat to find something in the house that was painful so that he could hurt her with it, or else he would forcibly make them "one in body".

Mercifully, one night she was taken outside, a rare treat these days, when it started to rain. It was a freak rainstorm that literally came out of nowhere, but the very moment that first raindrop hit her forehead, she flew into a rage, completely losing control of herself and going on a destructive rampage. When she finally woke up, she found herself lost in an alley. Her clothes were torn, and the unmentionable regions of her body were fully visible. There was blood on her hands, and she could feel her own blood coming out from her waist, her legs, and just below her neck. She was in no condition to move, communicate, or fight back. All she could do was mew, mew pitifully like the beat up kitten she really was.
