| "Understood." With that, Lucien lapsed back into silence, forcefully quelling the worries running rampant in his head and focusing on just reaching the facility in time.
~-Short Time Skip of 2 Hours So That This Doesn't Drag Out Any Longer >_<-~
Nifl paused outside of the door, his hand resting on the handle. The boy was inside. His orders were clear; there was no more time left. The facility had been breached. Lilith would be mad if he dawdled. This thought alone gave him the resolve to open the door to the boy's room. He stood in the doorway, gaze focused on the far wall, avoiding eye contact, yet making it clear that there was no chance of escape. "Proceed forth with the utmost of haste; thy presence hath been called upon. It would be wise for thee to in thy mind keep the gravity and lack of hope of thy position. Fleeing would not be the wise choice." Again with the strange way of speaking; it was like a mixture between old English and modern English. It was probably one of the reasons why Andrew's 'prison' guard wasn't too talkative.
Meanwhile, Lucien had just reached the ladder leading up into the facility, and was, at the point, surveying the situation and deliberating between just climbing up quickly in order to take someone by surprise, just in case someone was there, or sneaking up the ladder in the hopes of avoiding detection.
Nifl would lead Andrew through a virtual maze of identical white hallways before they reached the thick metal, double set of doors leading into the lab. When Nifl and Andrew approached, they slid open with a slight 'swish'. The room inside was cavernous, and littered with every manner of machines, none of which looked like regular human technology. At the very back, just barely visible between the rows upon rows of machines, was a large, intimidating machine with all manner of drawings on it, and what seemed like foreign, ancient writings. In front of the machine, connected to it by more drawings branching across the ground, were two test tubes with heavy metal bars encircling them. Koko was inside one of them, slumped against the side, unmoving. As they drew closer, however, it would become apparent she was breathing, and was most probably conscious. Lilith and the brown haired man in the lab coat that had been at the riverside when Koko and Andrew had been kidnapped were waiting for them beside the test tubes, apparently chatting about something. A vicious smile met her lips; virtual waves of malevolence rolled of of her. She was no longer trying to hide her true nature. She wanted Andrew to suffer; to be terrified. To beg for his life. "Why thank you my darling Niflheim, now please help him into the machine for the good doctor." Nifl's eyes fell to the floor; whether or not Andrew struggled or not, he eventually ended up in the second test tube thing. No sooner had Nifl closed up the test tube and the bars surrounding it than the symbols on the floor abruptly began to glow with an unearthly light. Lilith's smile vanished, and the doctor uttered a cry of surprise. In the adjacent test tube, Koko was now standing. Angel wings had grown upon her back to full-size, shimmering softly in the strange glow of drawings. She was staring at Andrew, though her eyes were now milky white, and saw nothing. A stitched scar extended across her face now as well as across the visible skin on her body. Lilith shouted something at Niflheim, and he sprang at Koko's test tube, however there was a bright flash of light, and he was thrown across the room. The glowing of the symbols on the floor brightened, and Andrew would begin to feel his skin heat up. Then the searing pain, like being burnt by a hot piece of metal, coursing through his veins. This lasted only ten seconds, however it probably felt like an eternity to poor Andrew. There was a final flash of bright, intense white light, before everything just seemed to fall away. The pain was temporarily gone, and it was just Koko and Andrew now standing in an endless white expanse. She strode freely over to him, smiling sadly and ruffling his hair. "I'm sorry, but this is the best I can do. Please forgive me." Her voice sounded distant and strained. "This way...this way she can't hurt you...and...and you can stay with Lucien. Be....happy....An.....dy..." She pressed something into his hand; just a smooth, well-worn piece of glass with little etches in it. It seemed to be taking more and more effort for her to speak, and she seemed to be almost fading away herself. "Ple....ase.....ke....ep....this.....sa....fe......for.........m........e........." With that, she faded away entirely, and, quite abruptly, Andrew was back in the test tube in the lab. He would feel a strange, almost burning sensation throughout his body, with pinpoints on his back. And power. An immense, untapped power. The floor was no longer glowing, and Koko had slumped to the floor in her test tube, now unmoving. |

| This was going to be a long job for Naku and Lucien both but he saw the overall outcome as being worth his time. Though after this job was down he was going to have Kira pestering him not to work so much but it seemed like the best oppurtinity to obtain what he wanted. "It'll take about two hours to reach the facility from this point. Its mostly straight but there's a few turns to get the right way." He didn't bother to point that Luicen better have packe rations and supplies because even if he surfaced now he was leaving city limits. "The rabbit guiding you only has enough charge for a hour down here. I'll be able to guide you further but the connections likely to break." He knew that there were weak lines of service down here. Attaching a map he sent Lucien's present location to his phone and the route he needed to take to reach the facility where Andy was being held. Andy had considered rushing for the door before but given up all chances of that seeing that there wasn't enough time or space to do anything. When the door closed again he crept towards the food examining it. His stomach hurt but he wasn't sure if that was from hunger or something else. Unsure if the food was drugged or just not edible he picked up the dish and carried it back over to the window and sat down. This isolation was slowly driving him crazy. His emotions wavering over if Lucien would come or not.

| The little rabbit did surprise Lucien, and he was more than a little hesitant to rely on it, but since he didn't really have much of a choice, he just went with it. The worst thing that could happen would be he would end up dead. Or Andrew would. The thought made him walk a bit faster. The hour had felt like a year; time felt like it was slipping away uncontrollably, at a speed he wouldn't be able to catch up with. He was relieved when the rabbit finally came to a halt; he knew they were getting there at least, little by little. He carefully pushed the wall, putting on a bit more pressure as he felt it give. It swung open like a door, releasing a cloud of dust as it did so. It hadn't been used in a long time; that was a good sign. Lucien proceeded forward into the dark passageway ahead; the darkness was absolute, and the light only lit the area about two metres around them. There was no way to tell if anything waited beyond it, although Naku would at least be able to tell him how much farther the entrance to the actual facility was. Truthfully, the secret passage connecting the facility to the flood systems was twice as long as the distance they had just travelled. It would take them as least two more hours to reach the facility, and then they would still have to find out where Andrew was being kept.
Koko was relieved to see food just being dropped off. She ignored her own; she didn't feel hungry at all. She wasn't sure if that was her own body or another result of whatever the doctor had done to her though. Koko watched Andrew instead, examining the boy while running through the few options she had to save him. None of them were very appealing.
Nifl liked the dark. It was nice. Damp. Cold. He gathered strength from it. He'd found the Dark Place about a month ago. The boarded-up hatch had been trapped under some old machinery the doctor had yet to dispose of. The Shadow liked it there. Sometimes he would just go let The Shadow loose down there. He knew it would return. It always did. He went there after dropping off the food, troubled by slight sensations of guilt arising. He'd felt better after letting the pitch black liquid out of his sleeve, and watching it slither down the tunnel. He'd considered going down there himself, but he couldn't leave his guard post for too long otherwise there would trouble. Nifl felt it before he heard it; The Shadow and him were one, and he felt The Shadow's excitement. It had found something. Or rather someone. Someone it wanted. The Shadow didn't usually take an interest in many; Nifl was one of the few. He whistled softly, attempting to call The Shadow back. It didn't listen. He didn't like that. In fact, he felt oddly irritated at whoever was taking his Shadow away from him. He forcefully retracted The Shadow against it's will, swiftly closing the hatch and turning away from it. He'd seen it act like this before, but only around one other person. That man. The tall one with the pitch black eyes. The one Lilith paid so much attention to. The man was taking The Shadow away from him as revenge for him taking the boy away. The thought occurred to Nifl quite suddenly, before he could stop it. That wasn't right. He knew it wasn't. But he felt like it was. He felt like the man was giving him what he deserved; an eye for an eye. The thought made him panic a bit; he should go tell Lilith right away. He wasn't supposed to feel like this. He wasn't supposed to feel anything. This was wrong. "Niflheim sir." The voice shocked him out of his quiet panicking; it was the redhead's voice. His surprise quickly faded when he laid eyes on one of the stitched-up nurses; the doctor had apparently decided to distribute the things he had taken away from the girl to his hodge-podge team of nurses. "Request from Dr. Stein: Bring half-breed girl to laboratory. Restrain if necessary. Prepare boy for preliminary tests." He merely nodded and headed back to Koko's cell. He retrieved the gurney from outside of the room. She did put up a fight, although it was a silent one. Andrew would remain undisturbed. Nifl knew the girl would not be returning to her cell, so he left the door to her room open, and the untouched tray of food on the ground. |

| Lucien was surprised by Rabbit's requested payment, but just swiftly dismissed it as the eccentric hobby of some weird computer genius. It was something he could do quite easily; it would just take a few greased pockets, or he could even have it smuggled in with some of his other...franchises. Of course, Lucien didn't deal in drugs, but he wasn't exactly the most legal of businessmen either. Sometimes it was just more convenient not to go through all the hassle of registering certain purchases with the government and all that useless paperwork in order to get it into the country. And some of the chemicals and materials they used in the Sterling labs were not legal. "Consider it done. If you want something specific, however, I suggest you contact my secretary later with the details." He swiftly stepped out his car, sliding on a pair of sunglasses simultaneously. It was all he really had for disguise, although, honestly, it was really quite useless. Still, people weren't used to seeing him without an entourage, so the odds were they would just assume him to be someone who looked like Lucien Sterling rather than the real deal. He silently followed his guide's instructions word-for-word, pitch-black hues scanning over the area casually every so seconds to ensure no one was following him or watching him. He was used to stuff like this. He'd done it before, more than once, the only real difference was that he'd always known who was leading him around before. Now he just had some guy who called himself 'Rabbit' manipulating him like a puppet. "The underground route will be safer." Lucien slipped into the alleyway unseen, one hand reflexively shifting to the gun resting just underneath of the white dress shirt he was wearing. He didn't carry a holster; the .35 mm pistol was tucked loosely into his pants. He figured it would be useless against Lilith and her cronies, but it might prove useful to discourage any curious civilians or regular human guards from taking action. Thankfully, Lucien was quite lean and flexible; he slipped into the small space between the dumpster and the wall with ease, and pried the board off of the hole as quietly as possible. He descended into the dark hole below, being careful to pull the board across the hole as he descended.
Koko paused at Andrew's written question, but then smiled lightly. Her smile was sad, however. She wrote her answer in two parts, one word at a time. 'Of course.' She watched Andrew's reaction, confused for a moment, before noticing that the blonde's door was opening. For an instant, her heart was sent racing; was that twisted freak coming for Andrew? She would die before that would happen. If that freak so much as touched Andrew, she would make him wish he was never born.
Nifl slowly pushed open the door to Andrew's room, eyes focused downward. Going no farther than the doorway, he set a covered tray down onto the floor next to the doorway, before swiftly retreating from the room, locking the door behind him. He repeated this procedure for Koko's room, never daring to cross the threshold between the hall and their rooms the entire time. He knew he was their enemy, and he knew they would not think kindly of him. He was accustomed to that, he was comfortable in that situation, so he went out of his way to keep it like that. On rare occasions, some of the doctor's experiments tried to befriend him. Or rather, not befriend him, but gather his confidence, when they really just wanted him to let them escape. But he couldn't do that. He had to make them understand that, otherwise the guilt would come, and didn't like that. |

| Lucien did not like the thought of this Rabbit guy knowing where he was. It implied a lot about Rabbit's technical skills. So far, Lucien gathered that he was younger, judging from his voice, somewhere between mid-teens to early twenties, and a technological genius. Either that, or just one of Lilith's pawns hired to lead Lucien into a convincing goose chase. He knew he didn't have a lot of time, so he sincerely hoped it was the former. Upon receiving the text, he pulled a sharp left; he'd almost missed the turn-off to the street he needed to go to. "...It is exceedingly valuable, hence my apprehension. Earlier you mentioned not working for free; may I inquire as to whether you want money, or something else?" Lucien may have been intolerably concerned about Andrew, but that still didn't mean he wouldn't recall these things. He'd learned his lesson long ago about making deals when you weren't clear exactly what you were paying. When he was still about a block away, Lucien pulled up to the curb next to a parking meter. He didn't want to attract any attention by driving right to the exact spot.
Koko pressed her hands against the glass, she looked tired, and unnaturally pale. A frown met her lips when Andrew spoke; she couldn't hear him. She wasn't sure whether this was due to the glass or not. She breathed lightly on the surface of the glass, her warm breath causing it to fog up. She hastily scribbled out a message onto the fogged-up glass. Are you okay? It was rather messy, and began to fade quickly. She just hoped Andrew had been able to read it. The words would be backwards on his side; she would have written them so he could read them more easily, but she wouldn't have had enough time before the glass de-fogged itself.
Outside the rooms, Nifl left the gurney in the hallway. He tried to summon the dark liquid again, but ended up fidgeting too much to concentrate. He decided to get up and walk around a bit. After five minutes of pacing, he grew restless again, and resolved to check on the girl and the boy. He glanced into the window on the boy's door, and noticed they were still right near the glass. The girl tried to fog up the glass and write something, however it de-fogged quite quickly. Nifl stayed there for only one more moment before abruptly turning away and proceeding swiftly down the hall. Lilith had told him to take care of the boy and girl, and they probably hadn't eaten for a while. He would just deliver some food for them. That's it. Nothing more. He really had to work on ignoring that horrible, constantly nagging feeling he occasionally got when he felt like he wasn't acting correctly. Lilith would skin him alive if she found out he felt guilty about anything. |

| Lucien was in an argumentative mood; he just barely managed to keep his mouth shut while Rabbit spoke. Honestly, he really just wanted to tear apart the city; send out the entire police force if he had to, but he knew that wasn't an option. Hell, he couldn't even involve anyone besides Alexis, and she had disappeared to god-only-knows where. So far, it seemed like he would be going it alone. Under normal circumstances, upon receiving the text with the photo and directions, he would have just gone there by himself right then and there, guns blazing, but this was Lilith he was dealing with. If he just tried to barge in, he wouldn't make it beyond the front door without having to deal with her or Batboy. Probably the latter, and, much as he hated to admit it, he wasn't much of a match against Batboy. Lucien took a moment to collect himself; to calm his nerves and think more rationally. When he spoke again, his voice sounded much calmer. "Mmhm. I recognize the outer building. I do recall receiving a report about an underground building, however it was apparently demolished. The report must've been a fake." He paused only briefly as he climbed back into his car, which had been waiting on the road next to the grassy bank. He was planning on heading over to his office to review some of the security footage they had of the traffic light near the building with the underground extension. He wanted to see if anyone had gone in and out of the outer building. "I assume you have the old blueprints for the underground building; is there more than one entrance?" The Asylum actually had two entrances, both of which were featured in the blueprints Naku had. The first entrance was in the basement of the aboveground building attached to the underground facility, while the second entrance led to a secret tunnel which extended under the city and attached to the flood tunnel system underneath the city. The entrance to the secret tunnel was located behind a false wall in the flood tunnels underneath the local library.
As soon as he heard footsteps, Nifl's drawings once again dissipated and returned to his sleeve. He automatically stood up, crimson hues looking down the long white hallway for the source of the footsteps. He saw the gurney first, before the nurse. The nurse was clearly not human, at least not any longer. Stitches extended across the body of the being, almost like a modern Frankenstein of sorts, except the eyes were just black. No pupils, no irises; just pitch, lightless black. He didn't like the nurses here; they were really creepy. Anyway, he almost didn't notice the form strapped firmly into the gurney until it tried to struggle against the thick leather straps binding it to the contraption. Koko; the redheaded girl. Except she was a whole lot paler, and her shouts and screams were silent. Nifl had been right; the doctor had stolen her voice. The nurse halted the gurney in front of the room attached to Andrew's, just leaving it there and walking away. Apparently, it was Nifl's duty to escort the girl into her new temporary abode. Reluctantly, he approached the gurney. The girl instantly recognized him, and glared ferociously; her eyes relaying the message her voice couldn't. He retrieved a set of keys from his sleeve, unlocking the door swiftly before rolling the gurney into the room. Andrew was just in the room next door, separated only by the glass wall. Nifl kept his eyes averted, looking at neither Koko nor Andrew. Silently, he loosened the straps on the gurney. Koko was determined, but she wasn't stupid. She didn't bother struggling, and did not attack Nifl at the first chance she got. She felt horribly weak; he could swat her like a fly. He knew it too. He held out a hand in an offer to help her off the gurney, but she ignored it, sliding off on her own. Nifl hesitated for a moment; he wanted to apologize for hurting her, but he wasn't sure whether or not the doctor had taken her hearing as well. Koko, now ignoring Nifl, shifted her eyes around the room she was in; she was quick to notice the glass wall, and, beyond it, Andrew. She rushed to the glass wall, excitedly attempting to speak to him, however no sound came out. Andrew would probably be able to piece it together; the glass wasn't thick enough to block a lot of sound, so they should've at least been able to talk. Nifl watched awkwardly from near the door to Koko's room for a few moments, before hastily retreating through the door with the gurney in tow, locking the door behind him. He reclaimed his customary position against the wall outside of Andrew's room. |

| Lucien could hear the taps of the keyboard through the phone; it only served to stoke the fire of his irritation. "As helpful as your information may seem, there are several abandoned hospitals in this area, all of which were replaced entirely when the Sterling Corporation first began construction throughout the city." It was the truth; all old buildings were swiftly removed after being condemned by the Sterling Corporation.
Andrew was more or less correct; it had once been a hospital of sorts, although not for mental patients. The place called the Asylum had fronted as a biochemical laboratory, but, underground, past even the sewer systems, laid an extensive laboratory. The underground area had been used a testing facility for viral warfare for a brief stint. The blueprints would display the old layout for the viral warfare testing facility, but it had been altered drastically since then. After World War II, the Asylum's aboveground section had been closed down due to an outbreak of a virus down below. It was the Reaper Organization that dealt with the issue quietly, dispatching the diseased humans trapped in the underground below and wresting control of the facility from the company that had been conducting the testing. Information of this event never reached the surface, and only blueprints of the old layout existed. After gaining control of the Asylum, the Reaper Organization (RO for short, because I'm getting sick of typing it out all the time) literally ripped apart the underground level, rebuilding it into more of a hospital interface. Aboveground, the Asylum was torn down and replaced with a store specializing in beds and bedding. Meanwhile, down below, the RO used the underground level for hospitalizing rouge Reapers, hence the heavy secured rooms. Since then, the underground level have switched hands in the RO to one of the primary Reaper scientists. Unfortunately, the RO isn't quite big enough to ensure nothing screwy is going on in all of their research facilities, so the Asylum had to be left largely unsupervised. Anyway, the scientist, unfortunately, had been an acquaintance of Lilith's before she went screwy. She corrupted him to the point that his research switched from being harmless to violent and extremely illegal. He was now attempting to artificially manufacture half-blooded Reapers using live human test subjects and various parts of a Reaper. Due to the instability of the union, Reapers being dead and humans being alive and all, half-blooded variants of Reapers were incredibly rare. Reaper life essence could reportedly be given to a human to artificially manufacture a half-blooded Reaper, however the reports of success were so low that the practice had been forbidden. Half-blooded Reapers were so desirable in the first place because, in some cases, they possessed astonishing abilities surpassing even that of full-blooded Reapers. Anyway, nowadays, the practice of creating a half-blood, whether artificially or not, was considered the highest form of blasphemy, and half-bloods generally found it difficult to survive in the Organization due to animosity from others. Naturally, the scientist had been unsuccessful as of yet in his efforts. Using an already existed half-blooded Reaper, however, to create another half-blooded Reaper was another story. Thus why the scientist was so excited when Lilith brought Koko to the lab. Koko was a half-blooded Reaper, not born of a Reaper and a human, but created by someone, and she possessed some of those astonishing abilities rarely found in half-breeds; she could speed the healing of wounds to the point of minutes, for one. It was the only ability the scientist had seen of hers in action, but it had amazed him. Truth be told, Nifl was quite similar to Koko, although what he was could be debated. He was neither Reaper nor human, but seemed not to be a mix inbetween either. He was a mystery in and of itself, and if the scientist hadn't been petrified of Lilith, he would've dissected Nifl long before now. For the time being, however, the mad scientist was content with just taking apart the redheaded girl. |
