| Edward nodded in response to the neko’s rant about card games. Yes, keep him talking Eddy thought. The more he talks the less tired he’ll be… He was inwardly pleased with the neko’s interest in his cards though he didn’t miss the odd stare just before he spoke. The neko was gazing at his eye… like all cats he was more then likely curious about how his eye came to be this way. At least he wasn’t afraid. Edward couldn’t count how many of his guests had been simply horrified when they first saw him. So many had been petrified for days on end just because of his eye, claiming they saw disturbing images if they gazed in it long enough. Their own death, the last moments of victims passed, and some atrocities unmentionable. It seemed as though the neko saw nothing horrible or frightening since he was so trusting and open. Perhaps it was because he was so exhausted? No, Izzy was genuinely unintimidated by his peculiar eye. Once again he was inwardly pleased by this.
Edward shuffled the cards before placing five on the table. “Fortune telling is usually a load of crap.” He explained. “But these cards are special… they’re not from this world… I was told they were from heaven. It was a toy God made for his son, but when it was time for his son to go down to earth and serve his purpose a mischievous cat made his way passed the pearly gates and stole this toy from the holy one… not like it was missed… the holy one never needed them in the first place.” King of Hearts, Seven of Spades, Jack of Clubs, Jack of Spades, and Nine of Diamonds…
Edward moved his hand to the king with a frown. The man had a sword and was stabbing himself in the head. His heart was clearly visible from his chest, his long hair stained and his face desperately sad. “Right side up Suicide King…” He tapped the card sadly. “You’ve been through great emotional trauma lately… someone you love dearly, you feel, has forsaken you… your life was slipping through your hands and your heart was wounded by something nearly unbearable.” His hand moved to the Seven of Spades. “But then… something good happened, or will happen….” Seven seeds in horrible soil in the middle of a dark and dreary rainstorm were on one half of the card. On the other side those seven seeds has sprouted into seven beautiful flowers and the sun was shining brightly above it all. “Something simply life changing for the better occurred, or will occur due to your incredible misfortune…” His hand slowly trailed to the Jack of Clubs. “Jack of Clubs upside down… yet another seemingly bad situation will turn into something great, fun, jolly… you’ll be very happy… Every Jack, except for the Jack of Diamonds are future only.” He briefly explained while gazing at the funny looking man skipping in the rain in a field of clubs. “The Jack of Spades, right side up, signifies some being you think is trustworthy that really isn’t… someone you haven’t met yet that you’re dying to meet… you’ll discover they’re not who you thought they were and you’ll regret…something…” He pointed to the devious looking angelic silly man who held a stuffed pink bunny with its head ripped off behind his back. The bunny had several nails in it yet the angelic looking man’s smile was a haunting, seemingly trustworthy smile. “And finally…” His hand came to the nine of diamonds and he just… froze. His eyes eyed the card curiously. To Izzy it might’ve looked like a picture of some sort but to Edward it just looked like your average nine of diamonds from any old deck. “Unfortunately a man I use to know made it so I could never read the Nine of Diamonds…” The Cheshire cat made him pick a card… and he did, the Nine of Diamonds. The Cheshire cat laughed and said something about how his future should be a surprise… and then, the picture was gone. He only had a quick glance before the card was made average to his eyes. He remembered there was more then one person on the card, but other then that he didn’t know. “Would you like to hear something funny?” Edward asked, not seeming all too amused by whatever he was about to say. “No matter how many times you shuffle the cards you will draw the exact same ones until your fortunes have come true…If you draw more then whatever you have, the cards will just look exactly like the first five over and over….” He sighed before setting the deck down. “Try it if you wish, perhaps look at all of them and ask whatever questions you may have…” He offered before pulling out a deck of normal cards from his opposite sleeve. _________________ [The Sucidal Sock Puppet Master] |

Edward sat quietly across the table from the neko barely paying attention to the youth at the moment. His mind was on other things such as 'will I be snowed in again?' and 'Should I expect some random creature on my doorstep during winter when I don't have the supplies to help?' Of course he always managed to find supplies if not here, then in wonderland. His eyes slowly trailed back to the neko after a few bites of his own roast. The question wasn't necessary for the one roomed home spoke for itself. One person had to live here, there wern't enough things for two. Trying to be polite however, Edward gave a very simple answer. "Yes." It wasn't like him to carry on a conversation by asking too many questions unless it looked asthough things needed to be said to relieve stress or sorrow.
Time passed and soon the food was gone. Edward filled up another glass of water, this time placing a bendi straw in the clear container before placing it infront of Izzy. He needed to stay hydrated if he hoped to survive this night. Once again edward's thoughts returned to this neko. Would he have to burry somebody who died in his home because his help was offered precious moments too late? It certainly looked that way. "I'm glad you found it to your liking." He said half heartedly while trying to think of a plan to keep the kitten awake. If the kitten didn't sleep perhaps his chances of survival would be far greater? Then again he fell asleep earlier and woke up... But when he woke up he was barely alive and hardly able to stand... The question suddenly brought him to a more stressful place. No, not the question itself... the guess.
"Cats..." Edward repeated while hiding the distane in his voice. Edward had encountered many nekos who were in need of his assistance however there was one cat that drove him absolutely mad. The cheshire cat. At the very thought of his name the echoes of uncontrollable laughter fluttered about the corners of Edward's mind. The peace and quite of his home was shattered by the dares of a game and the mockery of being a slave to the queen, a zombie, a drone who had no purpose other then to serve the blood sucking vampress that tainted the most perfect of worlds with her hideous and atrociously selfish heart. The Cheshire Cat... the only one who hadn't left him alone like the rest of wonderland. The only creature who dared disturb him, taunt him, tease him, and make an unbreakable wager with him to forever save his head by taking his head.
Edward suddenly realized that he still had company. He had been gazing off into space for almost three minutes without saying a work or aknowledging the neko's existance. "I beg your pardon..." he said slowly in that semi-deep and quiet voice after a moment and stood up, pushing his chair in. "Do you care much at all about fortune telling? Card games, tricks, things of the like?" He pulled a card out of his sleeve, hoping to distract the neko or at least capture his interest for the next few hours just to give him a better chance at surviving the night._________________ [The Sucidal Sock Puppet Master] |

| Edward froze when the neko’s eyes opened. His eyes fixed themselves upon the other’s face before the neko’s mouth opened and his head once again fell onto the pillow quickly diving into a nightmare of being hunted by a beautiful yet angry woman. As Eddy proceeded to disinfect and stitch the larger gashes on the kitten’s body he could see the dream only progressing to where the woman’s henchmen, or something of the like, were skinning him alive and pulling on his tail yet no matter how much pain he was in it seemed the neko couldn’t die in this dream. The nightmare had a strong grip upon the young kitten and it didn’t seem ready to let him awaken. Edward rolled the kitten to his stomach so that he had access to the neko’s back. This only seemed to intensify the nightmare for now he was being forced to the floor and beaten more savagely without his skin. There was only so much of this nightmare Eddy could take. Before proceeding he traced his hands to the neko’s ears and gently tweaked them to see if it might sooth this vicious dream. He thought of a peaceful place he use to visit and thought of the days before he felt so numbed to the world. The days when his father was still alive and his mother wasn’t so cruel… Edward traced his hands down the neko’s ears and through is hair before his fingers stopped on his neo cortex area. He massaged the other’s temples before leaning down to his ears, whispering one simple command: “Peace.”
And with that command the dream suddenly changed. The neko was now sitting on a rock with an older man, both smiling and both fishing speaking of familiar things and making fun of some cruel woman. The older man playfully shoved the neko into the shallow water and soon the two were enjoying a splash fight before rain began to fall. The two swam into the waterfall and crawled into a hidden cave where a couch, a rug, some colorful tea pots, a book shelf, and lanterns awaited them. The two took their clothes off and wrapped themselves in towels still speaking of familiar things, a vacation from the place known as wonderland. Together the neko and this older man made a fire and roasted some unusual food known as butterfly bread and chocolate rocking-horse-flea with marshmallow trout. While dining on this wonderfully delicious food the two exchanged ghost stories about the jabberwocky and the ongoing fight between the Jubjub bird and the Bandersnatch. Even the Cheshire Cat was mentioned in the unusual stories they shared.
Now with a pleasant memory, one of the last memories of his father that Edward had, he was able to work without envisioning the nightmare within the neko’s mind. It wasn’t uncommon for his guests to have such horrible dreams and since Edward didn’t really mind losing all his so called precious memories he gave them away to his guests only to watch them play out and gain a new memory of giving away the memory so he could recycle them time and time again. The memory of a memory was simply a waste of time though so he didn’t often use them or review them. If anything he tried to ignore them as they left his mind and ventured into the mind of his guest and played out, replacing Edward with themselves.
Edward continued to tend to the neko’s injuries, stitching up the various weapons and wrapping them in a special cloth that would prevent too much itching. When his hands fell upon the wings tattooed into his back he felt odd throbbing lumps as if something was stirring beneath the flesh just waiting to be unleashed. They seemed irritated and painful so Eddy prepared the herbs he had collected and made a special paste before applying it to the odd lumps over the wings. He massaged the flesh soothingly and soon the throbbing ceased. Once he had finished tending to the neko Edward ventured out, stepping over a boar carcass left on his front door. He had to collect that fire wood before the sun set. When he returned he put the logs in the rather large stack within the log cabin. He brought two logs and some flint to a small black old fashion stove. Once that was ready he went back outside and carried the boar in before preparing it to be eaten by the two. About an hour later the boar was cooked and ready to be carved with some rosemary and acorns. Edward glanced back to the sleeping figure and walked over to him, feeling his forehead for a fever before tapping his cheek lightly with the back of his hand. “There’s food for you if you wake up.” He whispered in the neko’s ear. “Very tasty food… I’m sure you’re very hungry.” He said in a tempting tone._________________ [The Sucidal Sock Puppet Master] |

| Edward Valentine had been living in the human world for two years in a log cabin near the heart of the forest located somewhere on the outskirts of London England. He would still be called to Wonderland by his mother frequently however he hardly answered her screams anymore. Eddy didn’t hate his mother like so many in Wonderland, if anything he longed for her approval. So many years of trying to gain her appreciation, all wasted. It had left Edward drained of all energy and it had left him a sad faced youth who grew up with no heart, except for the heart that made up his right eye socket. Even when Edward had placed himself in danger for her sake she didn’t show the slightest bit of gratitude or love towards him. The mark that forever ruined his face didn’t even earn a “thank you”. A sign of gratitude, of love, and or of happiness was far too much to ask from The Queen of Hearts. Instead she was repulsed by his face and she forbid him to show himself to her unless called and he was only called when she wished for his strength to aid her in her quest to behead all who apposed her unlawful ways. All of Wonderland knew that Edward was revered by his mother though none chose to befriend or speak to him for they were afraid of the axe he held to slay when the beautiful snake hearted woman commanded.
Wonderland was a place Edward tried to leave behind. He never did join a society however he did seem very popular among the woodland creatures who inhabited the world around his log cabin. It was not uncommon to see a blue jay landing on his shoulder when he walked outside not a young fawn to fallow him with the watchful eyes of its mother gazing at them from beside the lake. Edward would sometimes wake up with an injured animal on his doorstep, perhaps a wolf who had survived a hunters wrath though gained several pellets in its hind leg. A few pack members may surround the home as Eddy removes the metal, cleans, and stitches the wolf in its time of need. For his kindness, calmness, and sad face he was well known and respected in the animal world however animals can not replace contact with human like beings and because of that Edward never learned how to interact with the creatures of Wonderland or the humans in the city anyway. Edward often took walks through the forest to keep from getting bored. He would keep his axe over his shoulder rather than drag it through the earth to prevent the ground from facing the same fate as those who displeased his mother.
Today Edward was looking for a dying tree. Some sort of ill and withering willow so he could collect some fire wood for the harsh winter months were quickly approaching. Fall was upon them now and all the animals were as busy as ever. Every day Eddy would find various offerings of food at his door as a thank you from the animals for helping them in their time of need and taking care of them year round. What am I to do with all those nuts anyway? Edward thought to himself as he walked towards the dead and darker part of the forest. His aware eyes caught sight of a curled figure in the leaf caked floor before he had the chance to trip over him. Slowly Edward crouched down and prodded the figure with the butt of his axe. The limp male was easily flipped to his back by the axe. He didn’t seem aware of his surroundings however the weakened and barely conscious male knew what he needed. “Water.” Edward heard the weak cry and continued to investigate his figure. He helped the boy sit up and supported his back while pulling out a water canteen. He unplugged the canteen with his teeth and helped the other to drink enough water to sustain him for the time before putting the plug back on and putting the canteen back in its proper place. The weakened male was soon lifted from the floor and taken back to Edward’s log cabin.
Occasionally Edward would find a human, a neko, a vampire, or some other creature left for dead or lost. Edward had always offered what he could and miraculously he had never been harmed by the less trustworthy of those he’d saved. He would always get the same reaction though… Whomever he saved would glance to his eye, then try not to look at his face to avoid being rude until told it was alright, and that it didn’t matter to him at all. Once they were well Edward would help them get to whichever way they wanted to go. Edward only had to slay his guests twice. Once a human accountant and once a human hunter. The human accountant thought him a monster and was going to get a mob to burn down the forest, kill all the animals and Edward. The hunter just tried to shoot him. Both men he gave a proper burial and both men were dug up by the carnivores of the forest, a wolf or a cougar, and eaten. Edward doubted this individual would be one to start conflict or obstruct the peace to anyone or anything around. Then again Edward could never be certain. He laid the lad on the only bed and began to undress him, leaving his undergarments on. Once the male was bare he tended to all of his injuries keeping hold of that same emotionless face he always wore._________________ [The Sucidal Sock Puppet Master] |
