Erm, one idea could be she's been forced to marry a powerful gangster character...

...yet it's an unhappy life, he's abusive and she tries to escape. Then basically a mysterious stranger turns up at the wrong place and the wrong time, and ends up finding himself helping her run away, while they get chased by her husband's men.

...eventually they get free of him, and we'd see where the RP takes us from there.
