| Kim Darling sat on the hot pavement outside of her condo, red petals littered the stairs around her from the vases of scarlet flowers that her mother had decided to put out as an added decoration. Her mother was a display designer for the local stores in their small hometown in Iowa and it showed in the house and the outside. Kim hated her mothers line of work since it took her away from home a lot of the time but even when she was here she didn’t really pay attention to her daughter anyways. Kim touched the three piercing she had gotten to try and make her mother notice but they had failed just like every other thing that Kim did when she wanted her mother to notice her. Her mother had merely scowled and said that she would have to take them out when she went out to dinner, of course the first time that they had gone out she had disobeyed her mother but she didn’t seem to notice. Kim sighed and pushed her palms against the hot concrete of the stairs so that she could make her way down the stairs to the mailbox’s and get the mail like she had been doing for the past couple of months. She had found an ad for an au pair job on the internet a while back and she had been so delusional as to send in an application for it. It was in the Hamptons and lasted for the whole summer with a payoff of 10,000 dollars at the end, that was certainly a lot of money for watching a couple of brats. Kim had jumped on it immediately but so far she hadn’t heard anything from the couple who had posted the ad, she reached the mailbox and opened their slot before pulling out a wad of mail. She sorted as she walked, junk, junk, bank statement, bill, bill, bill, bill, junk, junk…a letter. At the bottom was a thick creamy envelope with her name on it and in the corner was the return address, in the HAMPTONS! Kim ran back inside and tossed the mail on the kitchen table, excluding her letter, that she took to her room and flopped on her bed before tearing it open eagerly and devouring the words with her eyes “Dear miss darling…we’re happy to say…report to…” she jumped up punching the air and whooping, she had got the job! Kim heard the door open with a squeak and the tell tale click of her mothers heels as she whisked into the kitchen and dropped her keys on the kitchen table before going through the mail. Kim made her way down the hall from her bedroom and into the kitchen, her mother stood bent over a particular bill and Kim just studied her silently as her heart ached. Her mother was clearly beautiful in her prime, and to Kim she always would be no matter how many wrinkles she got. Mother and daughter shared their long dark hair and willowy frame but Kim somehow filled out her bras more than her mother ever had. The only thing that Kim had from her father was his bright blue eyes and sometimes Kim thought that maybe that was why her mother refused to look at her daughter, she didn’t want to see the man that she had loved and lost in those eyes. Kim reached out a hand to touch her mother but when she sighed she let her hand drop “mom” she said softly and the woman turned to her “oh…Kim I didn’t see you there” she said flatly. Kim gulped “I got…I got the job as an au pair in the Hamptons” she said softly and tried a smile, her mother seemed thoughtful for a moment but her gaze was directed over her daughters head she turned away again to look at the bills “well that’s nice honey…I bet you’ll have fun. You better pack” she said and just like that the conversation was over. Kim almost cried as she walked back to her room, it had only been four months since her father had left and yet her mother already acted as if her daughter didn’t exist, nothing existed without him. Did her mother even consider that maybe Kim was hurt by his dissappearance? No she didn’t, in fact she didn’t much care what Kim felt or did anymore and instead of being happy about getting all of the freedom most kids her age dreamed of she only felt hate and self loathing. She went into her room and switched on her radio to a local rock station before sorting through her clothes, she was to leave in two days and she was much too ready to go. _____________________________________________________________________________________
The plane ride had been smooth, it was the car ride to the airport that had cast a dismal cloud over Kim’s mood. Her mother hadn’t even spoke to her or said that she would miss her, not even a hug had been exchanged between mother and daughter. A whispered I love you was all that Kim got in to a closed window before her mother had left her daughter standing at the entrance to the airport. Kim stepped out into the bright sunlight and took a deep breath, she was so close to the ocean that the tangly salt smell stung her nose slightly. She smiled softly and turned her own ocean blue eyes to the water that lapped against the beaches, one thing she vowed to do while she was here was learn to surf. Suddenly a dark SUV pulled up to the curb and a rather attractive young man exited the drivers seat to stand in front of her with a smile “I’m _______, I’m supposed to pick up the au pairs” he said with a dazzling smile. Kim was blinded by the beauty of him and she blushed lightly but suddenly something he had said clicked in her head “au pairs? As in more than one?” she asked and he nodded “yeah” he answered as if that was the most natural thing in the world.
((Ok pretty much I need the sons of the rich people that she is au pairing for and another au pair, I can either play both au pairs or you can play one. If I play both au pairs I would like you to play both brothers and if you play the au pair then I can play one the younger brother.))_________________ |
