That was the night that had changed my life forever. The night when the
thunder would not stop howling and the raindrops would not stop beating. The
night when I slept soundly, knowing that the next day when I woke up, I would
be able to spend my summer holidays with my parents. The night when I was
just a 12 year old happy little girl...

The last night when I had my parents.

I didn't know how everything happened. All I knew was that I was awaken by
some strange noises outside of my room. I continued to shut my eyes, thinking
that it will go away once I get back to bed. But it didn't. Instead, it just got louder
and louder. Until some time later, I heard a scream. A helpless scream filled
with agony. I could no longer hold back my curiosity. I got up from bed, and
approached the door. My little palms grabbed the doorknob, and I turned it open.

The thunder sounded again once, and it was only after the lightning had faded
away that I witnessed it. My parents were lying down on the ground, motionless.
Not only that, their faces were horrible. They seemed like they had just met
something so awful, so disgusting...and so painful...

As my eyes trailed over to the red liquid on both of their bodies, only then did I
know, that my parents were no longer with me. I was alone. All alone. They will
not stand up and pat my head anymore. They will not smile and hug me
anymore. They will not scold me or cheer me up anymore. They will lay there
forever, sleeping for eternity.

Before I even knew it, my tears had already gushed out from my eyes. As I
turned up from the corpses, I saw the opened window in the other end of the hall.
The winds were blowing hard at the curtains, the raindrops hurrying their way
into our hall. It was then, I had a sudden urge to scream.

And I did. Next, I heard someone banging the door open, and although
everything was blur, I knew it was my neighbors somehow. They must have
heard my scream. At that thought, I released all of my body muscles, and
collapsed to the floor, and then everything went pitch black.

Katalyn snapped herself up immediately, right when she was about to snooze
off once again, while revising her homework. It's the fifth time today that she's
snoozing. The only reason why she had to torture herself by studying whole day
long is because of the stupid upcoming test. If it had not been for the test, she
would be doing other things like watching the television, playing some of the
games she had in her desktop, or even hanging out with her best friend, Janet.
But no, she had to score in this test, just so she could get the scholarship she
needed.

Tossing those thoughts aside, Katalyn pushed her chair backwards, and
stretched her body before standing up. She took a quick glance at the clock at
one corner of the room. It was already 10 in the night and she still hadn't got her
dinner yet. Katalyn got out of her room and headed over to the kitchen. Her
other roommates are probably out, since most of them were college students.
She opened the refrigerator and found nothing that was edible. Sighing once
again, she headed back to her room, grabbed her purse and coat, and left the
house.

She needed to get something to eat. So she walked into town and looked at most
of the closed shop. Oh gee, why did she have to forget that it was already a
quarter past ten? By now, the only shops that were opened were the
convenience stores and nightclubs. Well, she had no other choice, so she turned
into the convenience store and got herself some snacks to spend the night with.

After exiting the store, she started to head back to her house. But before she
could even get away from the store, rain started to pour down on her. Lucky for
her she got her coat. She set her snacks down and covered her head with a hood.
Then she grabbed the snacks and began to hurry home.

She hated rains because they would remind her of the death of her parents.
That's why, if possible, she wanted to get back home as soon as possible. But she
stopped halfway, in the middle of the deserted streets. Something had struck her,
and as if by intuition, she tilted her head up, to meet a man right in front of her.
For no reason, the night of her parents' deaths flashed through her mind, as this
man began to leave traces of himself in her mind.
