Meiko stared curiously at his pointed ears, wondering why he would have to hide that he was an elf. Was he ashamed of being an elf? Why would he be ashamed? Her hand lingered under his ear for a moment before she slowly drew it back, placing it in her lap. She was about to open her mouth to speak to him when the ground began to tremble beneath her. She hardly had time to dart to the side by the time Zero shouted a warning at her. Meiko moved swiftly, sliding across the ground to the left and spinning on her feet to face the beast that had interrupted their quiet moment together. She felt a cold blast of wind rush by her, the fire she made flickered out as it smacked the monster back; their dinner would have to wait. She growled quietly, tightening her fist as the ache in her stomach grew.

She drew her sword from it's sheath. Her sword was a jian, a double edge Chinese blade with a black an orange tassel that hung from her hilt. Meiko heard Zero's whisper, she assumed thats what this beast was called. She wouldn't hesitate and wait for another attack. Meiko rushed forward, tightening her grip on her hilt as the blade lit up in flames. She sprinted from the ground into the air, and then drove the sword down to tear into the beasts shoulder. He lifted an arm and knocked her back, she slid along the ground on her back, clutching her sword in a deadly hold. Meiko rose again, spreading her feet apart in a firm stance as the beast came towards her. Her face was one of determination, as she refused to back down. Swinging her flaming blade into the air, she brought it down to the ground. Fire from the tip of the blade struck the ground, and raced along the ground towards the laxadon, striking him hard on the side, he roared in agony as the flames licked at him, rolled, and when the flames vanished, contiued to advance towards them.

Zero watched her fangs begin to show. He wondered if that was because she was about to eat, or if it was because she was hungry. Either way this girl was becoming more fascinating to study as time went on. Not thinking anything of her scooting closer he smiled. "I am fine thanks to you. I could've very easily been dead had you not stopped along the way." He continued to thank her for her actions of yesterday. The refreshing cool air was nice the cave was good for keeping warm, but felt kind of stuffy. He backed up a little though not out of her grasp as she touched his face. 'What was she doing?' he wondered. He turned his attention to her. His eye's almost automatically found their way to hers. He was instantaneously transfixed. Her beautiful golden eye's were truly breathtaking, but that is not what kept his attention it was more so the depth. They were like bottomless pools drawing him in. They screamed pains, and strife that he'd never known in his life. Without realizing it he let a single tear roll down his cheek. He was brought out of his thoughts by her soft spoken question. Though his mind was back his body still felt paralyzed with sadness for her. So as she brushed his hair back revealing her ear he didn't immediately respond. It took a moment he quickly sat up, and covered his ear. "I...ah..." He backed up.
That's when his ears picked up a troubling sound the ground beneath them began shaking. A large animal with a thick hide appeared behind Meiko." Meiko watch out!" Zero shouted.Just before the monster hit the camp it was knocked back by a wall of wind, and snow; which also knocked out the fire. It didn't take long for the beast to get back up. Zero thought hard, he knew he'd seen this animal before, but where? in a text book. "a loxadon." he whispered. A loxadon's only weak spot was it's soft underbelly. If he had his sword he could channel his powers so much better, but without it he could only do so much he was mainly defensive. "Are you ok?" he called out to Meiko.

Meiko raised a brow in his direction at his answer. She knew for a fact that he wasn't human, Meiko knew what human blood smelled like. And when she healed him, he didn't have a drop of human blood on his being. His clothes wreaked of humans, but that could easily be explained by where ever he had purchased the outfit. She didn't understand why he would have to hide who he was, but she quickly remembered his distrust of people. The curious brunette bit her tongue, and held back the wave of curiosity she felt. She simply nodded and glanced away. They trudged on a bit more before finally settling in a clearing.

Zero provided the food and Meiko roasted the logs until a blazing fire was burning brilliantly between them. She hadn't said much since he tried to slip a lie past her, but that was because now she was in deep thought, trying to figure out exactly what he was. She didn't want to come out and completely accuse him of being a liar, it really wasn't any of her business. She thought if she watched him carefully enough that she would catch onto what he was by his behavior. She placed the frozen food on a rock near the fire to thaw it. Meiko tilted her head to the side, gazing down at the meat. Why was it frozen? She glanced up at Zero, then smiled slowly as he swatted at the invisible bugs flying above his head.

She flipped the food over so it could thaw on both sides when he asked her if she was okay. Meiko nodded. "Of course i am. I'm just feeling very... ravenous." She grinned wickedly, the tip of her fangs peeking out behind her lips. They hadn't ate all day, but had walked without many breaks. She was exhausted, and very hungry. "Are you okay? You seem...Uneasy." She scooted over a bit closer to him, placing a hand to his cheek. His cheek was hot under her hand and she pursed her lips together. "You feel a bit warm...Are you sick?" Catching him off guard momentarily, she brushed a strand of hair out of his face, reaching it back to tuck it behind his ear... That's when she spotted the pointed tips and felt him tense under her touch. "Ah..." She breathed quietly.

Zero watched as she picked up the flower. He assumed she was imparting unto him some wisdom as she spoke of the flower of more than a flower, and using as a symbol. Zero almost felt as if she was talking to him as an ignorant child. He didn't say anything not wanting to give her reason to think that, and since opening his mouth would only prove that he remained quiet, and nodded.
As she tied the flower among her hair, and smiled at him. He wondered if he considered her one amongst her ranks. He thought for a moment he had indeed gone against not only his parents wishes, but his own better judgement, so in a way... He smiled, and nodded. "I guess you are right."He should've realized that asking the question of race would only bring it up toward him.
"You can't tell? don't i have a humans scent?" he questioned. He wondered just how sharp her nose were. Though he was an elf he made sure to buy garbs from a human in the last village he visited in an attempt to cover his scent.
He stood there for a moment as she examined him. She didn't say anything right away he was sure she was contemplating. His sense of smell could only possibly be half of hers if she was a cat demon. It wasn't much longer before the sun was beginning to set, luckily though the night was gentle, and a nice breeze blew by them. Zero found a nice clearing, and gathered a small amount of dried sticks, and logs. he even caught some food though for some reason they were frozen. Meiko still hadn't said she believed he was human, however she still hadn't out loud called him a liar; though now she seemed to be looking at him with a slight amount of intrigue. He was very much regretting using his powers to catch their food now. He plopped down near the fire. "are you ok? did i do something?" a gentle breeze tickled his ear. he quickly rose his hair to cover it moving his hair so that it couldn't be seen. "Bugs everywhere!" he said with a laugh trying to mislead her.

They were quiet most of the walk, but Meiko didn't mind. She enjoyed taking a look at the scenery. Every once in a while, they would say something, or she would point out something she noticed. Her interest was mostly held by him. She watched him from the corner of her eyes, curiously trying to figure things out about him. It was obvious he wasn't from the poor class, and he couldn't have been human. Meiko took a deep breath breath, trying to place what exactly he was. His scent was unfamiliar to her though, although she smelled no demon blood. Meiko decided she'd find out soon enough, he'd have to fight the bandits sometime.

Then he tossed a question at her that made her laugh aloud. The ears atop her head twitched, as if on cue, as she said, "You really can't tell?" Meiko teased gently. She lifted a hand, the tugged carefully on one of her cat ears, stroking it softly between her fingertips. "It's in my nature to be curious." She stopped where she was walking and crouched down to examine a lonely, blooming red flower on the side of the road. Her fingers caressed the soft petals tenderly before delicately plucking the flower out of it's resting spot. She cupped it between her hands, smiling up at Zero.

"Asiatic Lilies usually grow in numbers, this one was sitting all alone on the side of the road..." Her voice trailed off momentarily before she finished what she was saying. "Every once in a while, you'll find that things abandon the standards set for them, and they'll go about things their own way." She unwounded the red ribbon in her hair that was wrapped around her bun, and she tucked the flower into her hair, carefully nestling the lily into her hair, and then wrapping the ribbon back around it to keep it secure. "For those of us who abandon our packs... We tend to find others who've done the same." Meiko smiled at him, her cat ears twitching again. Generally, the cat demons traveled in packs: tigers, panthers, lions, and other wildcats came together to protect what they have. "I'm a tiger demon." She confirmed, in case he hadn't figured it out. She didn't care to mention that she was only half, and wouldn't reveal her wings to him if he asked what else she was. "And you? What exactly are you....? Not a demon." She said, tilting her head to the side curiously as they continued their walk.

He nodded his head. "Thanks, but i couldn't ask you for anything more than what you've already done from here on out i'll be trying to pay you back." he smiled at her. He then closed his eye's he had to concentrate. It was only a moment before he smiled, and said. "We'll take the right road, i mean i think that's what would be best." he kept up the smile. He watched as she caused the flame to flicker out. He smiled. "That must make it easy i generally see people try to smother it, and that takes a bit of time. Thank you for joining me."
He took the lead she stayed close behind him. As they walked he slowly began to accumulate a number of questions for her, but didn't exactly know how to go about asking her. They had walked in silence now for about an a few hours or so with the exception of a small joke, or interesting site here, and there before he finally began to ask questions.
"um if you don't mind me asking what kind of demon are you?" He hoped he didn't cross any boundaries. "I was just curious, i mean i've met demons before, but for a demon you're a little..." It took him a moment before coming up with the right word inquisitive. The sky had cleared up, and Zero's blonde hair was shinning in the sun. He much preferred the cloudy storm like weather. He walked along side meiko waiting for her response. She had piqued his interest not a small feet by far.

Meiko smiled at him, grateful he was letting her join him, if only for a bit. "I'll help you catch those bandits so you can get your things back. And then, if we find our paths go separate ways, we'll split." She said swiftly, and then held er hand out, the fire flickering out, vanishing altogether. Meiko knew they wouldn't be near a town anytime within the next few days, she had traveled these roads many of times before, and the next town was three days travel on foot. She figured by then, she'd have either convinced him to allow them to travel together, or she would have changed her mind because of the chances she always took with her brother showing up.

She stepped outside of the cave, looking over towards the right, the path that lead to the next town. To the left, it was just a few miles of forest that eventually ended, and on the other side of the forest was the ocean. It was obvious the direction the bandits would have taken. She looked over to Zero though, waiting for him to make the decision for which direction they should take. After all, she was the guest here. And she had a role to play, she didn't want to seem too assertive, or too capable of handling herself. He may get suspicious and know she wasn't really looking for someone to protect her, but for a bit of company to ease her heavy heart. "Hmm... I wonder where we should start." She said, placing a hand to her hip as she gazed up at him, a tender smile on her pink lips.

Zero woke slowly the following morning. He rubbed his eye's slowly, and let out a large yawn. As he tended to do when he woke up his let his soft purple eye's scan the area looking for any abnormalities. He blinked a few times, and scratched behind his ear. Before he noticed Meiko was up moving he was greeted with a good morning. It surprised him a bit causing him to really wake up, and become more alert. He found it suspicious that she had gotten up so early he checked to make sure nothing had been done to him, though he made it look as if he was just fondling around with no particular objective. His cloak lay neatly folded on the ground. He rose to his feet with a yawn, and picked it up. He shook it a few time removing any loose dirt, and tied it on.
He walked near the exit, and stood there for a moment. The sky was still a little gray, but it looked like it was clearing up however to be sure. He stepped further out of the cave so she couldn't see he moved his hair from his ears closed his eye's, and listened for any sounds of a change in weather. With none in radius that he could hear he turned back to her to begin to say bye, which is when she suggested they travel together. He felt divided by the choice he now had to make. Either say no disregaurding her unscrupulous kindness, or say yes bringing her along on a quest he didn't necessarily have intentions of returning from. He thought for a moment standing in silence. "I don't think you want to travel with me you don't even really know me, but i'd be more than willing to accompany you to a nearby town, and from there you can go about your way. I'm sure their'd be somebody there willing to help you." He felt it was a fair compromise, and it might not be a bad idea to have her around at least until he got back his money, weapon, and items.

She sent a questioningly look over at him as he told her to call him Zero instead. For some reason, it just seemed to suit him better then 'San' did. She wondered if he had used it as precaution, giving a false name before he could tell if he could trust her. She didn't understand how telling him she couldn't recall her memories had made him trust her more then a few moments ago. What if she had been a psycho when her memories were erased? What if she had hurt a lot of people? She could have been a horrible person, and instead, it made him trust her more? Meiko didn't understand, but only nodded at his suggestion.

The brunette almost refused his cloak, she didn't want any gifts from him. Truth was, Meiko rarely got cold. The fire always warmed her blood, but her legs were slightly cold. She didn't imagine that he would feel uncomfortable with sitting so close to a girl with little clothing on. At his words of departure, her heart ached quietly. She would miss the company she had, and had almost argued with him that he would still need to rest. She imagined that he would want to chase after the bandits though and retrieve his things. She immediately thought of assisting him, and would ask him about it in the morning. She had a feeling it would be tricky to get him to allow her to accompany him, he wasn't a trusting guy.

After he fell asleep, Meiko slowly dozed about an hour later. Through the night she tossed and turned with nightmares of darkness, and flashes of her mother's terrified face. Images of her menacing brother attacking her, and then slowly, the perpetual darkness again. She woke with a start before the sun had rose, shivering violently as the wind blew in. The cloak was tossed to the side, and the fire had died out. To her relief, Zero was still there, fast asleep. Her grogginess from last night had vanished, and she felt revitalized. Meiko bent forward, lighting the fire quietly, and it cackled to life immediately. She waited quietly for Zero to awake.

An hour or so later, Zero finally woke up. She was anxious, eager to tell him of her plans. Before allowing him to gather himself up and leave, she spoke quickly. "Good morning." She flashed a friendly smile at him. While he was asleep, she had wrapped her kimono around herself and tied her ribbon tightly around her waist, strapping her the sheath of her sword to the ribbon around her waist. Meiko had thought about it all morning, and he seemed like a very humble, but stubborn guy. He was set in his ways, and didn't think he needed any help. So she would play the role of a girl needing assistance. He'd think she needed to rely on him, which wasn't a complete lie. "I was thinking about what you said last night. I really shouldn't be traveling alone..." She paused, chewing on her bottom lip carefully as she looked over at him. "And you know, I could be of use to you. I can make fires, I can roast a decent fish, and I can help you find those thieves who stole your things." Meiko smiled hesitantly, "I hope you don't think I'm being too advanced, I'd just really feel a bit more comfortable traveling with you then I would alone... Who would I be able to rely on if the same thing that happened to you happens to me? We've got to be able to count on somebody in this world..." She finished, her eyes glistening by the firelight.

"Your memory is gone?" he questioned. He noticed the pause meaning she had let a little to much slip. At first he chalked it up to her not being able to control herself, but now he felt as if he should tell her something just to even things up it was only proper; or at least that's how he balanced it out in his mind. He ran his fingers through his hair in a slightly frustrated fashion. "Don't call me San anymore please, from now on i'd like it if you called me zero instead." he gave her a weak smile. He rubbed his eye, and gave a large yawn. He was quite tired, and he was aware that the quicker he slept the earlier he'd get up, and the faster he'd get back on track. The Rain was now coming down hard with powerful violent winds, but for some reasons the sounds of the raging storms didn't faze him. He scooted himself closer to the fire. He looked at what Meiko was wearing even if she controlled fire there was no way that skimpy outfit could be very warm. He slowly untied his cloak, and handed to her. "Here please use this." He tried to make himself comfortable up against the wall. "I will leave in the early mourn. Quite possibly before you wake up." He released another large yawn. "If we meet again then i will find a way to repay you." he said with a true, and kind smile. "i like people like you." With those last words spoken he let himself drift asleep.

Meiko hadn't caught onto the looks he had given her at all, and when he answered her questions, she was careful to listen closely. It didn't sound like lies, but something just didn't hold true with his words. She didn't give off the impression that she didn't believe him though, instead just nodded. When the direction of the conversation shifted towards her, she squirmed a bit closer to fire, getting uncomfortable. She was hesitant to speak about herself, because she didn't know much about herself. Her memories were either mixed up in a jumble, or gone altogether. For 2 years now, she had been trying to gather her memories. Only a few things had come back to her though, and that was a landmark called Mount Dia, a cabin in the woods, and the horrified face of her beloved mother.

Meiko knew from the questions she had asked her brother that they hadn't belonged to a tribe or a clan, and the only other thing she had belonged to was the royal family on Fairy Isle. That was long ago though, and they had probably long forgotten Meiko, like she had almost done to them. Finally, she had come up with something to say to him. "Do I look like I would rely on a tribe?" She asked, shifting as she turned her body to look at him. "I don't take orders well from others, so being in a tribe where a leader would constantly be barking orders at me...? Eh.. No thank you." She flashed a quick grin. "Other then that, this life is the only one I've really known. I've been on my own for 2 years now. I can't remember much about my life before then..." A long pause drew between the two of them. She had already slipped and lead him into it, she might as well finish it. "My memories just sort of... vanished." She shrugged, trying to give the impression as if it wasn't a big deal. "This is the way I must live in order to survive." She smiled sadly, going back to Fairy Isle wasn't an option for her. Not until she pieced everything together.

Zero had to remind himself that he had told her his name was San. He had forgotten his mind was clear after putting all his energy toward getting them into the warm from the rain. The rain fell harder now, and a strong wind was about to pickup. IT seemed like a storm was on the way. It was a good thing they started moving when they did. He quickly defended himself trying to delecantly explain what he meant. "ah...now what i meant was you look small, and light, but you are even lighter than one would assume a petite woman like yourself to be." He released a sigh. She didn't seem unforgivingly annoyed. He assumed he dodged a bullet after sitting still for a few moments he was back to the condition he was under the tree meaning he didn't feel the strain on his body to much any longer, and the headache had gotten less severe. Even if they were now safe from the rain they still didn't have anyway to stay or even become warm. He was about to ask her if she had any idea's, but before he could ask she was already gathering firewood. He watched carefully hoping to gain the knowledge on how to build a fire. But instead of her doing it in a normal fashion once all the wood was piled up she created a flame in her hand, and let it fall to the ground lighting the wood. 'A demon...' He thought to himself looking at Meiko. Demons tended to either be mischevious, or ill tempered so he thought it best not to anger her.
He leaned himself up against the opposing wall of the cave. His eye's took in the full view of her feminine wiles, as the flames gave her a magical shadow that accented her beauty. He quickly turned his eye's from her. He wondered if she noticed, because she seemed to be turning to him, but it was only to ask him a few questions. He couldn't deny the fact that he'd not had much need to travel. "yeah i'm a bit of a pampered rich boy, but i know a little bit about survival, it's just...to someone like myself i don't need a whole lot of heat if i'm at full strength. I didn't for see an event like this happening it was my miscalculation, i'm even more so indebted to you it would seem." he said with a soft smile back. When she asked why he left. He fought back the urge to tell her it was none of her business, but she had done to much for him.
"I just wanted to see the world, where i come from seems like a small island i had to get out of there." he said lying. "So one day i said i refuse to take anymore, and ran away." which was only a half lie.
"What about you i mean, what would someone like you be doing wandering around alone. Not to say you aren't capable of taking care of yourself, but don't you have a tribe..." If she answered quickly it would be fine, because he wanted some information about her anyway, but if she didn't. He would say he meant home.
The small rain fall was slowly becoming a storm outside.
