((you guys don’t need to do a profile thing, I just wanted to give you all an idea of what she looks like and such))
“Miss Heart? Miss Heart!” a voice bellowed and broke through Serena’s thoughts. At the second sounding of her last name, she snapped to attention and sat up straight, directing her eyes to the teacher at the front of the classroom. He stared at her expectantly, and she didn’t need to look around to know that the rest of the classroom was doing the same. “Would you care to give us the answer?”
She blinked in confusion, trying to gather her thoughts, and spoke in a small, soft voice. “Oh, um..” She answered the question accurately just before the bell rang and all the students began to shuffle through their papers and slam their books closed. Serena followed slowly, breaking away from the noisy bustling and taking her time as she gathered up her things. Next to her was Kim, already packed and looking at her with a disapproving expression.
“Daydreaming again, Serena?” she said in a mock scolding sort of tone. Serena just gave a short, quick sigh, her lips upturned into a weak smile. She was always seemed to be deep in thought about something. Kim continued as she leaned in closer towards Serena, as if about to whisper a secret. “You are going to the Autumn Ball, aren’t you?”
Serena couldn’t hold back the quiet laughter that erupted from her throat at the question. “No,” she said still giggling a bit. “I’ve got better things to do that night, like
not make an idiot of myself.”
A shocked, disappointed expression painted Kim’s face. “What? You’re seriously not going to the dance? We hardly ever get a break from school like this, and you’re not even gonna go?” She placed two hands on her desk and leaned forward towards the window where the Night School could be seen across the courtyard and beyond a few tranquil trees. “What if one of
them asked you?” She referred to the vampires which everyone, both males and females, utterly adored with blind admiration because of their beauty. “I’m going to try and get Nyx to ask me,” she nearly squeaked with anticipation, probably imagining an incredible scenario of Nyx dramatically and charmingly asking her to the dance in front of everyone.
Serena scoffed at her mockingly.
“Well, I hope you get that fairytale ending you’re imagining right now. But like I said, I don’t think I’m going. I’m just not really into that sort of thing.” Kim sighed at her determination, said that she expected as much, but she was hoping for a miracle anyway. Then she left the room in a hurry, scrambling out to the courtyard to try and make conversation with one of the vampires before the sun set below the tree line and it was time for the night classes to take place. Serena took her time walking through the long corridors because she liked the quiet and the desolateness, considering the halls were hardly ever not crowded with chatty students rushing to their next class after realizing they spent too much time lingering in the hallway socializing. Golden sunlight streamed in through the windows and littered her path, the shadows creating a sort of striped pattern down the corridor. The schools were more like castles then anything else, and Serena found herself sort of fascinated with their incredible architecture.
She made her way out into the courtyard, a large fountain surrounded by stone was in the center, and a stone bench would appear occasionally along side each one of the paths. She usually kept to the outskirts of the courtyard, avoiding the social groups and most of the vampires that were prowling the area, (if they weren’t already surrounded by a group of crazed girls or wannabe guys). Serena absentmindedly observed them as she continued to walk by, heading towards the 3
rd Section, where her dorm room was. About four members of the Board discreetly surrounded the perimeter, supervising the activity to make sure their strict regulations of “No Biting” were upheld. She spotted a few new students around too. Probably transfers.
