"Yeah I understand." Said Kai with a sigh. Heading back to his lab he saw the place was quiet as the mess was still being cleaned up. It was then one of his best friends came up to him. "Yo Drake what's up?" Asked Kai. Drake suddenly plunged a knife into his stomach. Kai gasped and coughed up blood holding his wound. He hit the floor. Drake's face turned white the knife dropping. Everyone was frozen as they heard him said, "K..Kai everyone... I'm sorry.." It was then they were all face to face with an S class Homunculus. Back in the cafeteria Aoi spit her soup out when the alarms went off in the place. "Warning all fighters get into battle positions and all employees evacuate immediately! We have a state of an emergency! There's a Homunculus inside the Genesis Corp premises! I repeat all fighters get in position and all employees evacuate immediately!" Echoed a female voice through the speakers loudly. Aoi was up in a flash and running down the hall. She saw Kai moving down her way as fast as he could holding his stomach. "Aoi... run! It's too strong for you at your level!" Cried Kai loudly. A wall busted down and the Homunculus came running after Kai. Whip lashing the beast fast Aoi ran and grabbed Kai when it fell over. She then took off running with the Homunculus hot on their trail. "Leave me! I'm slowing you down!" Cried Kai. "Shut up stupid! That wound of yours is making you retarded! If you die I won't forgive you! It ain't your time yet!" Yelled Aoi running faster. "I may be infected though! If I become one then you'll have to kill me so just leave me here!" Yelled Kai. Getting knocked cold by Aoi he hung limp over her back. Aoi was frantically thinking of what to do as she tired to out run the Homunculus.

Mana started to laugh at Kai's words. "You think that your family is the only one that Homonculi killed off. How many kids were orphened from those beasts." She walked up to Kai. "Let's go for a walk." She said as she took his hand and snapped her fingers and she triggered her invisibility spell. She took Kai to the roof of the building. "Shh..." She said as she pointed out Serina. She was holding the diamond on a wedding ring. "You see, you had the luxury of having someone in the first place. Serina's parents didn't want her so they gave her up for adoption. She spent all her life in an orphanage. She enlisted into the Genesis Corp when the Homonculus Outbreak hit. She had never loved anyone before. Hell, she was the coldest bitch in the academy. But there that was when she met Daisuke Kotetsu. He opened her up. What's funny was that Daisuke was some nerd. He ended up being in your position. They were engaged to be married when..." She stopped to compose herself. "It was about two years ago when it happened. Serena had just finished off a Class B Homoculus. The thing was dead, but it was a spreader Homonculus. It shot it at Serina and Daisuke took the hit. Serina saw the transformation happen and she took him out." She took him back to the gym. "So, don't complain about you losing your whole family. Try having to kill the one that you loved. The only one you love." Mana sighed. "I hope you understand why she is hesitant. She doesn't want to get hurt again."

Kai was selling off the tickets to some other guy there when Mana showed up. Taking the money he said, "What truth? Do I need to know? Let her be alone. In fact she has no idea what it means to lose something or be alone. My whole family. My mother, father, and two sisters were killed by the Homunculus. I have nothing left." Said Kai counting the money out and putting it back in his pocket. He looked at Mana.

Serina had punched a hole in the punching bag when Kai asked her out. "Not a date?" She asked. "Shouldn't you be asking Aoi out to impress her." She said as she took her hand out. It was dusty from the sand inside the bag, which was pouring from the bag and making a pile under it. She went to her towel and squirt bottle and took a sip from it. She wiped her face. "Besides. Those things are boring to me. I'm more of a hockey fan." She said as she walked passed him. She left the gym and saw Mana. "I thought that you were going on a mission." She said to Mana. "You are still not over Daisuke?" Mana said. "Don't start, Mana." "I'm just saying that you can't be this island forever, Serina. Kai really wants to be with you and you're shutting him out like he did something wrong." Serina grabbed Mana and pressed heragainst the wall. "I told you to not to go there!" Serina said. Mana just smirked. "Really? Can't here the truth, eh?" Serina let her down and walked on. Mana walked to the gym to see that Kai was still there. "I think that you need to really need to know the truth about Serina."

"Hello there!" Said Kai appearing beside Serina. Smiling Kai said, "Guess what I got?" Holding up two tickets he said, "Tickets to the monster truck rally. I wanted to know if you wanted to come with me. Not as a date but because the friend I was taking caught the stomach flu so he can't make it and I can't get a refund on it so I was told. So will you come with me? Best seats in the house." Asked Kai.

Mana sighed. "And you were thinking about leaving..." She said. "You should really talk with Serina though. It is something wise." Mana's cell phone went off and answered it. "Okay..." She said as she looked at Kai. "My team just got a mission. I'll see you around." She walked up after calling her team. They were a bunch of different types of Alchemist. Mana's group that has a good reputation for the lowest killed percentage. THe problem was that she only accept the best of the best.

Meanwhile Serina was in the gym, dressed in workout clothes. She was kicking a punching bag and doing combat combinations.

Kai sighed it was then a man in a white lab coat appeared and said, "Kai a robot went out of control and destroyed one half the lab already!" "What the hell you coming to me for? Use a damn electromagnet on the thing and it'll shut it down!" Said Kai. "The man ran off and Kai said, "Well you're right about one thing. They would fall apart without me. My crew comes crying to me when the printer goes out of order or jams. I'll stay put where I am." A boom echoed through the area and as the simulated robot meant to represent a homunculus came crashing their way. Aoi squealed and hid behind Kai. And Kai ran toward it jumping up giving it a swift direct kick in the chest. It shut down and he looked at his crew and yelled, "Can't you fools do anything right! Now clean this mess up!" "Yes sir..." Said his now exhausted crew and Kai said, "Aoi what's with you?" "That thing just creeped me out. Is that the latest training simulation model?" Asked Aoi. "Yeah pretty much." Said Kai. It was then the Homunculus robot fell to pieces with a muffled boom. "You gotta be kidding me! This thing took weeks for me to build!" Yelled Kai freaked out. "Hey you kicked it. Anyway I'm gone." Said Aoi turning and leaving.

"Aoi, we're on the frontline at times because we are more equipped to defend ourselves. The Battle Unit specializes more in one on one combats, which is the case in facing the higher levels of Homonculi. We are better equipped to take out a mob of them. Its not political, its practical. It may be true that some Alchemist can take out the higher ups, and there are some Battle Unit troops that can take out a mass of Homonculi. Its just that we're more practical." Mana said to her. She looked at Kai. "You're not only the head of the science and technology department of the Battle Unit, you're Serina's right hand man. I think that you're the only one that she can truly trust in battle. The Battle Unit would probably fall apart without your smarts." She leaned against the wall. "I think that you're lying to yourself about not your feelings for Serina." She sighed. "Its probably not possible that she'll show her emotions... especially since...nevermind..." She stopped herself because she wasn't one to gossip.

"That's not the reason. It's just I feel I can do more is all. More then what I'm doing now." Said Kai. "Buddy you wouldn't last a minute in our shoes. Join us you will be smacked right onto the front line. I wish it was the battle unit went out first before us. Then we'd be the ones backing them up. Which makes more sense. But I have no idea what our corporate leader is thinking these days. I wish he'd get his head out of his ass and that's the honest truth. Stick with your cu8rrent job Kai." Said Aoi.

Mana sighed when Kai mentioned that he was going to leave Serina's unit. "That's something that I wouldn't advise." She said to him. "I highly doubt that any of the alchemist teams would accept you. This war is getting hectic. We don't have time to reteach someone whose specialty is in oneof our needed areas, Kai." She watched the interaction between Aoi and Kai. She shook her head in disappointment. "Are you wishing to leave her unit because she doesn't want to date you. If that's the case, then you should quit the Genesis Corp altogether. What would you do if Aoi drop you if you are in her alchemist group?" She had walked up to him.

"I don't have the heart to tell her I'm dropping from her unit and joining one of the Alchemist teams. I want to better my alchemy skills." Said Kai softly. He turned only to find himself face to face with Aoi flashing him again. "Getting a projectile nose bleed this time he hit the ground hard shocked. "Will you cut that out!?" Yelled Kai holding his nose as he sat up. "Oh don't pretend you don't like them. They're the perfect size." Said Aoi. Kai flushed angry and stood up saying, "I've seen better princess." "Ow!" He cried when Aoi stomped on his foot pissed. She then walked off with an angry huff.

Serina stopped in her tracks. "What the hell?" Serina said. "I told you that I don't date my subordinates of anyone in Genesis Corp period..." She said with a definate tone. "I really don't care if you date some alchemist. Just go already." She said as she walked off. "Typical Serina..." A smaller woman said. She was the size of a little girl in seventh grade. The truth was that she was Captain of a subdivision of Alchemist. Her name was Mana Kotetsu. "She's still a withdrawn." She said.
