Exon took a swallow of his drink, he had a feeling he was going to need it, espically considering when explaining about the elders. "The 'Elders' are a group of old Angels that look over things, including keeping tabs on me. I don't like talking about them too much because they'd drive a crazy person crazier." He placed the mug back down. "You don't have to worry about me vanishing any time soon..I gave up my position. I had a long talk with my dad and I managed to get out of it, so now I'm free to do what I want when I want without anyone calling be back. So you're stuck with me, unless until you feel like throwing me out or something. But everything is okay." The young man paused, then said. "..You look nice today Mae." 'Good grief that was lame.'

Absent mindedly Mae waved the bartender, a sign for yet another drink. The drink arrived but was shoved to Exon. It was a glass of red wine. Nothing special or fruity; but hey it got the job done. Now if Mae wanted to get knocked on her butt she would have ordered something else for both her and Exon, but being aware in this situation was a wiser decesion. Besides, there was still some bottles left in the fridge back home. "Oh. Official business then. I get'cha." Mae said as she took in what Exon had said. Even if he had been there, what would have happened differently? She would have had a shoulder to cry on? Woopie. Exon just being here now was enough. Just to let her know she still had a friend in this big crazy life. "So is everything okay then? Like are you going to be needed again...?? I don't understand how you and those 'Elders' are connected...Well maybe it's none of my business either." She stated, drinking from her glass, hoping Exon would at least try his.

The smell of beer and smoke greeted Exon as he stepped into the place but he had been to these type of places before in the other dimensions and realms and each had something special about them. He had never been to a bar in this realm before so it was a new experience. As long as he got to spend time with her he didn't care but he also felt guilty for having been able to stay here. "Erh..I'm not really into this stuff usually so I'll let you surprise me, just tell me what's good here." He leaned back, relaxed and comfortable in his chair but it was her last comment that made him wince. "..Mae..I'm so sorry." He said softly in a regretful tone. "I didn't want to leave, but I didn't have a choice. I got pulled away by the Elders." Exon said bitterly. "I would have normally told them to shove it but they actually had a good reason to drag me back. Something happened to my home and I needed to be there with my father's absence. I won't make any more excuses Mae, but I promise I'm not going anywhere next time...unless you want me too."

Mae glanced up at Exon in a sort of curious way. What on earth could he be thinking about? An honest and good question. She actually always wondered that. Whenever he got that far-off look in his eyes. What was on his mind when it rained? What was he thinking about when he heard the news of Zack's death? Did he ever think about her? Gently she pushed aside stray brown locks of hair and smiled an excited smile. "There's the Exon I know!" Well...it wasn't the Exon she knew; did he even drink? Eitherway, Mae began their small parade into the bar, ignoring Reno and Rude dancing on a table in the corner, and lead them to a booth on the otherside, away from the noise. She gestured for Exon to have a seat across from her before taking her own seat. To the bartender that was on his way over anyway, she quick ordered another round for herself. "If you want anything just let me know and I'll buy. My boss is paying tonight so if I order it, it's free." She giggled under her breath to Exon, the way giddish high school students do. When he drink arrived, Mae looked to Exon and smiled. "So...I really missed you. Where did you go anyways? When I told Tseng, my boss, what happend and that you helped Zack and I some time ago, he thought I was nuts. Until Reno said something. But..it's like you just blew away into thin air...." Of course the last comment was hinting at something. Something around the lines of 'you weren't there when I needed you'. But Mae would never say such a horrid thing directly to him. She cared for him far too much for that.

Exon noticed Mae turning red as a cheering towards the last comment. Despite what others may have thought of him, the Angel was very smart he just choose not to show it most of the time. Much of this was due to laziness, but other times he just didn't feel the need to bring it into play. But he had to wonder, was Mae blushing because of the comment itself or because she had, or still has feelings for him too? He could be looking too much into it. "Sure. It's not like I'm doing anything and it beats the hell out of paper work." At the moment he didn't care if they went to a paper clip factory, he just wanted to hang out with Mae. He missed seeing her or hearing her laugh, or how she would look cute when she got mad or comforting when she got sad. They were the little he missed about her but they meant more to him then he could properly put into words.

Reno arched a curious brow at Exon and pondered. "Exon?" He mumbled to himself still in thought. "OH YEAH. Mae's boy-toy!" Chimed the Turk playfully. The look in those gleaming green orbs of his meant he now did remember Exon; but was out to annoy Mae and him. "Came back to win Mae's heart have you? Or just to break it again?" "Reno shut it!" Scowled Mae with a face as red as the turks hair. "Go drink some more and bug off." "Fine fine." He said coolly. "But the bartender said you're paying for that broken glass..." With a smug grin Reno twirled around and waltzed back into the bar, shouting out another order of drinks. "Ehehe...He's still a jackass..." Mae tried to cover for Reno, but knew it did little good. "But...I am glad you returned Exon. I was missing the hell out of you!" Said Mae, turning toward the young man again. "So you left me for some work huh? Fine. I guess I do that to you a bit too, huh?" Smiling she pointed to the bar. "Wanna have a drink and catch up? I'm out for a buzz tonight."

Mae's strong reaction to his presence surprised him but gave the angel a warm feeling that wasn't at all unpleasant. It was something he always got around the young woman since before but never once did he say out loud what he felt. Even so, Exon didn't brood over it as he would hate become as emo as a certain man with a cape, but he wasn't going to say any names. He knew who he was anyway. The future Seraph stared back at her brown eyes and resisted the urge to kiss her. He hadn't realized just How much he missed this girl or how strong his feelings were until he was around her again like this. "Heh..It'll take more then that to get rid of me. Don't worry, I don't plan on leaving you again. I just got called away for some stuff, but I'm staying put here. I've missed you too much.." 'Ugh. A friends death and meeting your close friend you're in love with again is starting to throw me off, I need a distraction before I become a complete sap-there's Reno!' He looked at the Turk. "Y'know, I'm not that surprised with you that drunk you don't regonize me. It's Exon, you know the guy from before? Think a moment, it'll come back to you, or not."

Just as she left another day-dream behind, Mae heard a familiar voice calling to her. A ghost perhaps? Expecting nothing to be infront of her, the Turk slowly turned. The moment Exon's figure became visible, however, Mae's oak brown eyes sparked with life that hadn't been since that rainy day... "Exon?!" She gasped out, nearly loosing grasp on her drink. "Exon!" After officially deciding it was none other than he, she threw aside her frosty mug and jogged to greet him. She threw her open arms around his neck in a leap for joy. A friend had returned. A close friend. One she needed. "Oh Exon! You big bloke! Where the hell did you go?!" Her voice was broken, racing with lost breath and trying to sputter out all her current questions for the Angel. She looked up at his facial expression from beneath a thin curtian of chocolate brown hair and mist in her eyes. "I-I...Thought I lost you too..." This was muttered as she burried her face in the nape of his neck; embarrassed that he was wittnessing this side of her. "Hey Mae... The bartender says you have'ta....Hey!" Echoed Reno's voice from the bar. He staggered closer, but stayed out of reach. He stared at Exon in a drunken stupor; he didn't quite recall this man in this state of mind. "...Is there any problems here...Mae?" Mae quickly pulled back from Exon and swung around to Reno. "Of course not." ((ooc: Sorry! In the first post I forgot to put, M FOR MATURE!! ....I hope that works lol. >< Sorry I forgot all about that.))

It was harder these days and nothing since that day had been the same. Mae hadn't been the only one affected by Zack's death. Exon had considered the man almost like the older brother he never had and when he had finally died he had sort of..shut down. He couldn't shrugg it off like he did normally and while he did have something's to take care due to his training as future Seraph, that had been a screen to get away and clear his head. He had wanted to stay with Mae not only because she too was hurting but because Exon did in fact have feelings for the young woman. The Angel had never told his feelings, ironically and out of character of him for the fact he was scared of rejection. 'We'll Zack, at least you got to die a hero..' To have Zack Fair dead..it just seemed wrong. Exon stopped for a moment when he saw Mae, he would know that figure from just about anywhere(trust him, few girls around here were that curvy and covered up in this city). "Mae!" He called out, but didn't run up to her, because last time he had gotten hit on accident for his troubles.

| It was a muggy, summers night when Midgar was as silent as the grave. Other than ShinRa's normal activity, nothing was going wrong. The streets were even dead, but then again the bars weren't closed yet.
Even inside the old creeky bar, Reno and Rude love to drink at, the air was stale with the heat from outdoors. Mae felt this heat as she waited for the rest of the Turk's to accompany her here. Blair and Elena, a new recruit, were already participating in some rounds at the counter. The oak brown haired woman stood holding a cherry red drink, it's glass misting and sweating as the warmth outside melted it's coolness away. "Where are they now?" Snorted Mae under her breath, propping herself against the frame of the door leading in.
Mae was never a big party-girl, never big into drinking or acting crazy and wild. But things change a person. Things such as death, a loss of a friend, being lost in general. Blair continuely told Mae she would get over things, that Zack's death was the begining of new things. But what new things? ShinRa's sudden silence? With Sephiroth gone, Zack gone...things weren't the same. ShinRa was oddly quiet, making no noise, not poking around like usual. Even the job of a Turk was kind've lame these days. Hence the night out.
Some shook Mae awake from her saddend day dream. Looking down at her jean pocket she realized it was her cell phone buzzing on vibrate. She pulled it out quickly and glanced at the name that appeared on screen. 'Reno'. With a quick flick she opened it and answered. "Hello....??"
"MAE MAE!! I SEE YOU!!" Screamed Reno's voice back at her. The startled young girl stumbled then sighed. She didn't have a chance to reply before Reno had tackled her from the side. "Hello Mae~!" Chimed Reno, "We're finally here...!"
"Yuck, Reno! You're already drunk!" Cried Mae, pushing aside the red haired man. His breath smelt heavily of booze. "Where's Rude and Tseng?" But Reno didn't answer. Instead he stumbled into the bar, waving an arm around and demanding a drink.
"We're over here." Tseng sighed as he appeared from the darkness like a ghost from the past. "I ran into these fools nearly passed out on the street. Seems they're out Bar-hopping." As he approched, Mae noticed Rude was staggering behind Tseng and smiling wildly.
Mae inserted her palm into her forehead. "Oh great...oh well. At least they're having a good time...right?"
Tseng looked away from Mae, rolling his eyes. "Lucky for you. You don't have to live with knowing they work for you. They just work beside you, not under." The man with the long black hair glanced back at her, seeing her honey brown orbs change and turn distant. "No sign of any old friends, huh?"
"Heh, like who? They're either dead or up and left.... I kind've wish I knew where he had gone though...." By he, of course Mae meant the man with the Angel wings. Second time now that he had mysteriously vanished. Reno constantly teased Mae by saying his Space-ship took him back home; or perhaps he just flew the coop. Nothing too flattering. As she pictured the mans young and charming face, a song began to play from within the bar. The singers voice was drunk and off key. "Oh great, they started singing..." Taking a long drink from her glass, Mae began to step away from the noise of the bar, into the dim lights of Midgar and gazing at the sky. |
